Smargo+ bricked

    Hi,

My Smargo+ has stopped working, I updated the firmware and now it has stopped responding and as a result windows can no longer sees it when I plug it into a USB port therefore I cannot get the firmware software to do an update.

Does anyone know if it is possible to fix this sort of problem?

    Thanks,

    David

story go's that you could downgrade to 1.03 in Linux? Anyway uploaded the 1.03 in its section to download:

possible reason why you have this problem:

    Giga,

Looks like I have an original Smargo+ but it also looks like it is bricked/broken, I updated to the version 1.5 firmware which appear to be somekind of fake that is designed to break the reader.

I have no idea why someone would write a firmware to deliberately break someone's kit but this looks like what has happened.

If anyone knows how to fix this problem let me know.

    Thanks,

    David

why do people write viruses, or drop supporting products they sold, it beats me? have you tried in linux flashing back to 1.03 if you have trouble with Linux perhaps friend with linux computer can help you? This would not work in windows.
Don't know about recovering back from 1.5.

    Giga,

I have not tried in a Linux PC, I did however try it in a DM800 but as per the instructions in your link above the Smargo+ was not recognised by the DM800 therefore I had assumed it would have the same problem in a Linux PC?

If you think it is worth a go then I have an old laptop I could set up to run in Linux and have a go from with in Linux.

Let me know what you think.

    Thanks,

    David

    Giga,

No luck with the Linux PC, the Smargo is not recognised at all and therefore I cannot reinstall the firmware.

I will try to contact the manufacturer and see if anything can be done, failing that it will have to be a new one.

    Thanks,

    David

    Smargo FAKE v1.5

Yep, I download and flashed the fake v1.5 to a smargo and it did get bricked. I recovered it in windows by using the attached, then flashed it in a linux box back to 1.04.

I got the attached file from my suplier and although it looks like the standard 1.03 it did actually work for me, as the standard v1.03 would not detect the bricked smargo.

My lesson learned: Don't download smargo firmware from anywhere other than maxdigital or argolis sites.

I really don't understand why idiots put around these fake files that damage stuff - If they had any real skill surely they could put it towards something more constructive? Instead they just mess with the firmware update in a hex file editor which breaks it and call themselves hackers - loosers I think.

DREvil, thanx for the file you posted, but are you sure this is not just the normal upgrade to 1.3? (smart reader update 1.3) it does not fix anything to my bricked Smargo at all ... still cant be detected by the PC ... :/
