    Icon3 RS-232 and Null Modem Cable

    If you are the lucky owner of 2 Technomates (non linux) with recent patches and you don't mind a null modem cable connecting these. Then maybe your receiver(s) can to do this neat feature:
    Goto main menu and check if you have options where you can set sssp:

    Change Serial Mode: RS232 for both Technomates:

    if you don't have this option, don't bother reading further and hope you find it in one of the new updates soon.
    Power off both receivers, connect null modem cable, remove subscription card, switch both receivers on. Select channel from your subscription on both receivers, the one without card should show:

    No card in other receiver:

    Card inserted in other receiver

    Card removed in other receiver:

    switch now 1st receiver in standby: best part of all.
    This was tested on 6900 HD Super, rumors say this works on 3000 series
    please post on what models you found this feature to.

    for testing purpose you can use a short null modem cable and loop through sat cable and use scart/hdmi/ uhf to see both receivers on the same screen.

    2-way

    and this works 2-way, one card in each receiver, both can use the card, even if the other receiver is in standby.
    This means each receiver thinks it has 2 card readers instead of 1

    have put a 25 meter cat5e cable to connect each RS232 port of the 2 TM 6900 HD Super's with an adapter:
    DE9F (female) to 8P8C (8 Position 8 Contact (RJ45)) socket, works fantastic.

    Null modem without handshaking:

    |DE9F - 8P8C|_T568B_|8P8C - DE9F| Wiring termination
    |pin2 - pin1||pin1 - pin3|
    |pin3 - pin2||pin2 - pin2|
    |pin5 - pin5||pin5 - pin5|
