I have been reading here and there and it seems that when the chipset is similar sometimes executables, like movie player, can be exchanged from different players.

Dune HD center uses the same chipset as the azbox, if there are thoughts on building a different firmware for the azbox maybe there is a possibility to use executables from the Dune HD. However i do not succeed in extracting the firmware.

Hope you succeed with getting OSD The_Ripper, if there is anything we can do please tell us.

    Regards,

    Tommy

I would rather use this kind of wording If you get done with the OSD ... ?

@The_Ripper Good luck and may the force be with you :king-042: I fear that there are still many problems ahead of you.

@ The_Ripper. Best of luck and I take my hat off to you.
If you're looking for a beta tester I'll gladly offer my services.
Have an AZBox elite in use daily as the main tv decoder so can be used for longevity tests as well as crash tests. Am familiar with linux also.

A skystar pc dvb card which costs 35 eur can do all the above and if you want hd then a skystar hd which costs 70 euro. Plus it can act as a server as well. The only minus is that you need to place it in a pc (but if you are reading this post then you probably already have one)

Sorry mate but that's not a fair comparison... a skystar or skystar hd or any other dvb card by itself won't do anything.

    Actually, a 34eur skystar won't do 1080p

For a fair comparison you must add the price for the entire htpc to the mix.

(and if you are reading this post you probably already have a pc... but probably not on a fancy media box, on your living room, connected to your tv)

You are wrong, i've built a htpc from which i am writing to you right now. A 30 euro graphics card can handle full hd and a 35 euro skystar can handle full hd as well , but not dvb-s2.

OK, so 70 for the SS-HD and 30 for the gf together thats 100... What about the CPU/MB and RAM? I've seen nVidia ION boards with builtin gf for around 130 but you still need RAM (30 for 1gb), SS-HD (70), and something to run OS from I guess a cheap flash drive (5-10) will work, that is about 240 and that's without a box/power and remote control system...

    Example
NOX MINI ITX FANTASTIC WHITE 58,50 €
    SEAGATE 500GB SATA II 16MB SP (7200.12) 47,80 €
    ZOTAC ION-ITX-F-E* 179,40 €
    TEAM ELITE KIT 2GB DDR2 800* 42,00 €
    TECHNISAT SKYSTAR HD2 72,10 €

    TOTAL 471,90 €

Add to this keyboard, mouse, a remote, and a possibily 50€ for a HD2 CI-SLOT

As you can see, its twice the price of my azbox elite

You don't need a fancy box and motherboard to build a htpc. Just put a dvb card in the pc you already own, don't spend the extra 399,80. It also includes a remote.

I do, if I'm going to put it in the living room, where I like to watch TV, not in the office where's my computer..

By your logic... save the 70€ and go watch tv at friend's house...

You're out of arguments, face it. There's no way you can build a htpc or buy a sat receiver that does all the azbox does for it's price.

    But let's stop this offtopic.

the problem is azbox dont cope with cccam and newcs properly
and it also dont cope with large mkv files proprely.

That is why people are trying to get e2 on to it

it also has endless bugs at the moment.

if it managed all of the above it would be a great box.

there are boxes on the market that do all the above that are cheaper than the azbox.

Already been down the HTPC route and scrapped it in the end, just found it really annoying and sticky for doing simple things like watching TV and configuring the screen resolution (nightmare that was), would rather have a dedicated STB just for that use and a NMT for playback.

So to recap, even though the AZBox is not really doing everything promised, give me this box over a HTPC any day of the week!

Move your computer then from your office, sell your azbox, and buy a skystar hd.

If you already own a pc (which you obviously do) spend 70 euros and you can get much more options than an azbox (and most boxes out there).

You can't configure an azbox without a pc, does that mean i should also include the cost of your pc on top of the cost of your azbox?

I have the feeling that here someone is doing an intellectual speculation!
We speak of decoders or satellite systems in general?

must be objective and not say ****!

    - Azbox has many bugs and it is undeniable, however, has a good base and the decoder does almost everything on the technical features described.
    - Azbox decoder is different and if someone were objective, understand that innovative products have always more problems.
    - Azbox has a lower price to other decoders with identical characteristics.

Nobody said it azbox is perfect, opensat about it has to work hard and according to my humble opinion should listen more teams / friends.

Wanted e2? Well ... will be released very soon and everyone of you will do whatever he wants with azbox.
