Sti5518 clones? Like: e OPENBOX X?

A Q re. various clones - if anyone knows this model, please... I write here, as there are some really helpful and knowledgeable people in this section...

A friend has this rec and - we know not what to do with it...

It has a built-in card slot and the 2 slots for CI CAMs are empty [not possible to put a CAM in, as no HW present in that hole].
It says precisely:

BlueStar Satellite on the left side, next to the Power/"Standby" button. Then the black display, then 2 buttons [up and down for channels].

Then the little door to hide the slots, to shove a card in/CI hole.

On the door it says: "e OPENBOX X
Digital Satellite Receiver" DVB etc.


No other mark - nothing! But it looks more like 6010 model.

Procesor: Sti5518.

On the Manual it says 5000 on the display, so I presume it can get up to 5000 channels.


No connection when I start the All Updater v. 1.00 for Openbox and try to put in the SW for v. 800. Nothing ever happens. Settings are standard. I go to File -> Open -> find the SW for 800 and then Send...

Null modem kabl.

Maybe I'm not doing it correctly, as I haven't seen the procedure explained anywhere...

I can't give you the details of what's inside [FW/SW/Loader-wise] because my friend forgot the remote...

As for allupdater 1.00, it normally works this way;

-put receiver into operational mode (not standby)
-open allupdater and load your file
-pull the stb's plug from the wall socket
-press send
-plug stb's plug into the wall socket

If the software you have is indeed compatible with your receiver the software should now load fine, simply wait for the program to finish loading and give the all clear, then again pull the plug from the wall socket and connect to wall socket again, that is it.

As for the STi5518...it is one of the most commonly used processors in the world. Think I heard that up to 70% of all DVB stb's use ST chipsets of which the STi5518 is the most common one. It is therefore very easy to produce clones and to used other companies softwares (often illegally). With small changes the software files can be loaded into other units as long as the same chipset is used.

I have discovered the following [thanx to our friend around Euston Station!]...

that machine is a clone of these machines:

Always use the 190CN SW for it. It's an Arion/Ferguson clone!

S190CN (встроенный модуль Conax) - it needs this FW
- Ferguson AF-6018CR
- OpenBox X-600

But the Boot is a problem. 16.1 is in it at the mo and we have 17.1 and 20.1 now but...

AutoArioner for Boot and FW/SW, FKE107 for keys and Ariter 2N for settings lists and voila...

A bit of learning how to use the Arion tools and all but... I have the great intro in Serbo-Croat. The guy is even more generous than me! A veritable nutter on the Nth power! Hat down for his efforts!

And now I need a good, up-to-date SW now...

I mean the Emu with AUs...

I have attached 2 bootloaders. The 190CN loader should work, but, if i remember correctly will convert the box from BHN to STM format (not really a problem as far as software is concerned because you can use arion loader 2 to detect the header automatically).
The openbox X600 is the standard 20.1 loader which, i think should work for any format. This one has to be used dz arion loader version 2. The first one can be used with the older arioner

Forgot to ask, do you want the DVBextreme software or Technocoms software? Or shall i attach both and you can check them both out?

I met a guy the other day and when I mentioned what my hobby was he mentioned he was given an e Openbox X [it has a card reader, as I discovered later]. Since it is all a Welsh village to him I offered to look into it - it's always fun, isn't it...

I will attach the image to this message.

But it's not easy, as it needs the 190CN SW, unlike those easy to find pieces of SW for those cheap FTA models.

Here is a part of my email to him:

I was following the advice given and I managed to put in some stuff, without changing the Boot but only the SW/Emu, plus the Key file and the Settings list.

The details of the box as it is now are:

I put the "Surprise PL" SW/EMU into it. It is quite unstable and hangs/freezes every so often.

My questions are:

1) Which newer version of the Boot/Loader do I put in [the compatibility issues] and where to find them, please? Could anyone put it up here?

[1a) I suppose that Auto Arioner can put it in the standard way.]

2) Provided that the Header and all [compatibility] can be sorted: which new SW can then go into it?

2a) Are there different versions for it, as mentioned in a great HOW TO for Victory FTA in Serbo-Croat:

That looks like some pretty old software

Something newer attached so give it a try. Unfortunately not with gbox. You'll need arion loader 2. Not sure whether it will work with autoarioner, but if you do use autoarioner and you get 8888 on the receiver screen you'll know it hasn't .

As far as loader is concerned, try the AF6018CR one. AFAIK that will keep it as BHN. You can use arioner to load it. Make sure you select buc as the file type

I had that, yeah. Surprise_PL, that is. But unstable. And not AU - it even messes up the working keys by going into the AU mode, on occasion, searching for the operating keys. What I didn't do is to try it with a different Loader. Btw, it did work with AutoArioner.

I was rather looking forward to some other stuff you mentioned in the previous post, actually. With CS part, hopefully. This one doesn't have anything in it. Not even a possibility to attach to the external CS SW, that is.

Could you attach that SW, please? You mentioned 2 types I didn't see before.

Latest DVB extreme is A04 version (without gbox). It's quite unstable i here though. I can attach if you want?

The latest stable SW i have come across is the technocoms B6821, DVB extreme A03 and DVB extreme AF7. They're all a few months old so i'm not sure whether TPS is ok on them...want any of these too?

The file i attached yesterday, i thought it would be either technocoms or DVb extreme, didn't realise it was surprise......unfortunately don't have a box here with me to test at the moment but should have a powersky 8210 in a day or two to update for a mate

1. Latest powersky SW (version A6823) - released 16.1.2008
2. Technocoms SW - B6821
3. DVB extreme SW - AF7 RC7

Let me know which you find the most stable. From experience it's usually the modified powersky versions, but the DVB stuff comes a close second.

Looks wise DVB extreme seems to be the more colourful
