    Non playlist music player

Is there a music player that works on android that doesn't use crappy play lists and doesn't take over your music collection and make it long winded awkward and unusable ?

I've tried several and they have all been rubbish so far !

This link might be some help to you, Tony.

I think foobar2000 & VLC for Android might be more to your liking.

Most of the android players I've tried want me to fit in with their weird playlist layout with random genre and loads of different ways of accessing tracks, I just want the old windows style folder and list layout so I can pick the albums I've loaded and highlight the tracks I want to listen to without a nanny app steering me round the houses and hunting for pictures and album sleeves etc etc.

I suppose I'm a square peg in a round hole but I've kind of got used to doing things the way I like and not be lead by the nose into all the bloat that developers think you should have, I just want to play the tracks I want not what they want !

I tried Foobar 2000 on my windows PC and it was ok, on Android its a completely different beast and had all the pitfalls that most of the music apps have, I've read posts from peeps on the net that have tried scores of music apps and liked none of them, I think I'm in that category now.

Have you tried VLC for Android? That should be straight forward, if it's anything like it is for Windows. Give that one a go and see how you get on.

Thanks for the suggestion, I've used VLC quite a bit over the years on windows but its been customised for android and its got more complicated with no instructions how to make things work.

I've stumbled on Musicolet which is an android offline player which only plays tracks you've loaded onto the phone sd card and can't search and download on the net, its the nearest I've come to what I'm after, its got very little instructions but I've got it working best out of all the others I've tried.

I'll give it a few weeks to see how it shapes up.

I use poweramp, however I did pay for it. It does what you want. Also VLC is free and good, I don't know why you are having issues with it as that also does what you want.

This is off topic and not what the OP wants, but for those that have a NAS/SMB/FTP server etc and want a good music player with plenty features, well you can't go wrong with Neutron player. I have a raspberry pi 4 set up with home assistant and a 2TB usb drive plugged into it (as well as a 500GB ssd), and have a SMB plugin installed. I can stream easily from that throughout my house with SMB to my phone. On Nvidea Shield TV I have VLC which can also stream from SMB easily.

Musicolet has worked perfectly so far and was just what I was looking for, I've stopped looking for any other music players.
