The passing away of the dreambox.

    Hi Guys,
What I have most feared for a year or so has finally happened. After 16-17 years of loyal service, and immense reprogramming and recording my beloved DM8000 has at last, I think, gone to rest. It has had several months where overheating has increased rapidly, meaning many reboot but now it is just locked after first small run of the reboot line. There is also a 2TB hard drive loaded with films and programmes - no, nothing like that.. Any advice anyone might have please. Many thanks - Brain

Which image did you have on your dreambox?
You should be able to install this hard drive, into another Enigma 2 receiver, and it could work, otherwise connect it to your PC, as a slave, and copy all the files into a folder.
Are you considering a new 4K receiver?

    Hi Mickha,
Many thanks for your reply. They only have one for this box now and that is I believe Open-Pli. last updated about a week ago.My other receiver already has an HD, but I could put it into my older DM7020 box I suppose. Copying would take some while since there is 2TB on the disc and about 1.5 is full. I will try taking some off, but have no thoughts about a new 4k atm - I already have a VUsolo4k one in the lounge which has a 1tb HD. What would be a good one then? I am using a small newer DM 525combo in the other room. Many thanks for your help. Brain

There are too many new receivers, to even opt for an opinion, regarding which ones best. It all depends on what you want, especially regarding an internal hard drive, and 4K, and how often you're going to use it. I suspect that you use the VU+ Solo 4K, for most of your viewing.
You could try your dreambox hard drive, in your Solo 4K, as it used a caddy, installation is easy, but if instructed to do anything, to get it working, just power off your receiver and remove it, to avoid losing your data.

    Hi Brain,

I have a Dreambox DM8000 with a 2TB HDD installed, boxed and in mint condition. If you’re interested in buying it to replace your old one, send me a Private Message.

    Cheers

    Lee.

    Hi Guys,
I am just so thrilled - I have another DM8000 - it has always been my favourite box and thanks to Lee I now have the one he so kindly offered me. Not only a well considered and very generous sale, but because age is getting the better of me, his very full and many helpful ways to get the box flowing well has just been a very worthy example of why he is a great Satpimps leader. Thank you Lee and thank you satpimps for all your involvement over the years. [By the way - I did make a donation just before this happened which I am very glad as always to have done!] Brain
