    Motorised Dish Reinstall.

Trying to reinstall my motorised system at my new address, it's been many years since a last instal! I've loosely bolted motor/dish to pole and have found 28* with a strong picture. Pole vertically checked OK. My question is, before I start fiddling, can I set the motor alignment from the 28* East signal to achieve a good arc East to West or do I have to begin in the first instance on 0.8 West? Any advice welcomed.

    Best wishes from,

    Gibson

If usuing usals any sat will do, will just want a little fettling after initail set up maybe but not much if pole is dead plumb.

ive always used use 1 west as it was called back then Thor 0.8 now, as you can see from pole mount to dish how straight every thing is aligned.

Yes I find starting with 1 west is easier but if you haven't unbolted the bracket from the motor it may only be a case of adjusting the arc on the pole to get things spot on.

Which satellite you use depends on your location.
Not everyone, on a forum, is from the UK, and might not even be able to receive 1W.

If you really want to align your dish correctly, so that 0 points to your True South, which is your Longitude reading, then it's very easy, with a motor that uses USALS, but a little more difficult when using a 36v motor, which is when you try to align it to the nearest satellite, to your true south, your Longitude position, which isn't always 1W.

When using USALS, set everything to 0, dish, motor, and LNB. Enter your correct Latitude, and Longitude, into your receiver, remembering positive Longitude readings = East, negative = West, then send your motor/dish to an appropriate satellite, and then physically align your dish, on that satellite.

There is a lot more to get the dish tracking the satellite arc perfectly, including a lot of fettling, but that's the basic premise.
