    Boiler installation

Do we have any boiler installers who can give me a bit of advice please?

Have received a quote for replacing my LPG combi boiler with an ATAG ic27 Economiser. The quote includes:
    Boiler and flue
Flue + plumming kit to deflect flue gas
    Drayton RF2 thermostat
    In line shock arrestor
    Inline scale reducer
Power flush then hot water flush
    Inhibitor
    Magnaclean inline filter
    Replace condensate pipe.

The quotation is for just over £2900. Is this a fair Price?

    Hope someone can advise.
    Many thanks.

    Try British Gas, mate.

I've just had my conventional boiler replaced by British Gas, last week.

They'll send someone out to price up the job.

I just went with having the boiler, condensate pipe and flue replaced.

It cost me £2617.50 They power flush then hot water flush the system as part of the installation process.

He did an excellent job and it took approx 7 hours to complete the work.

I tried the British Gas website for an online quote, to give me an idea of what I was in for, and the price quoted came out more expensive. I think I was quoted about £2900 on their website.

So have them come out and price up the job for you.

    Hope that helps.

Almost £3000 to replace a boiler that costs no more than a couple of hundred to produce is a disgusting rip off.

I did my own. £550 for the boiler & £76 for additional items. Commissioned by Gas Safe Engineer £175. Easy as pie & under a grand.

Well said Nikkas! I have seen some staggering quotes by British Gas!! Take a note of the boiler being quoted and then cross ref on line....then ask them to justify their 300%+ markup on the main component. I wouldn't let British Gas over my doorstep....even if they were offering to supply and fit for £0! I had an horrendous experience with them 'supposedly' servicing a boiler....albeit many years ago.

I had a combination boiler replacement 2 years ago.
New flu, room thermostat, replaced one of the radiators.
    £2000
Before the UK laws changed I used to do it all myself and my first ever new boiler, three radiators and hot water tank was £675 all in.

You can buy all the parts you want yourself for much cheaper - then just pay a plumber to install it, as you are just replacing, you will already have all the gas/water pipes installed and it shouldn't take more than a couple of hours to install/gas check etc. You will save a lot of money doing it this way. Also when I changed mine I got £400 back from the boiler scrappage scheme. Depending on your cir***stances you could be eligible for a free grant and save even more money - google-fu that for info.

Also note that in 2025 new properties won't have gas boilers installed as we are going all electric - some of these new electric boilers are amazing. I was a maintenance engineer on oil rigs and the electric boilers were pretty small and easily could handle over 100 people using hot water at the same time, also look at how these 'Quooker taps' work, instant hot water - you can get very small electric boilers that work on the same principle and can be used for heating/water supply, you could google-fu that as well.
