    Dm8000

    Hi,
Just acquired a mint DM8000 for a bargain price, yes i know they are ancient and old hat and they were megabucks new.
It has a very old image on it (see attached photo).
Been a long long time since i played with a Dreambox and nearly forgotten everything i used to know :ack2:
Assuming i can flash with DreamUp from com port and null modem lead or use hold lower button down method to get ip from box etc and do it from web browser, using web method does the ethernet cable need to be a crossover type or a normal lead?
Anyone recommend a newer up to date image for this receiver?
Also can i fit a terrestrial tv tuner to it in one of the spare tuner bays?

    Cheers

    Backup your modules directory.
    Install BA
The run all images from USB stick. No need to mess with the image in flash.

    Hi,
Interested as to why you think the box is a clone, any way that i can check?
Just opened it up to give it a clean with a can of air.
Took a photo of the sim card in the receiver says AP8 and held in with resin.

Found this photo of an original sim,to me it looks like mine has the similar etching with "X" clearly visible on the sim and possibly the "Y" as in security underneath as per the original type sim.

But i suppose everything can be cloned.:respect-058:

    Hi,
Have used DB's since 2007 and have both 8000 and 7020 - all still working beautifully. Latest open-Pli is running well on the 8000, and even the largest E2iplayer will work generally fully.Usual system to reflash I have used, and crossover needed. Only used the usb on my VUsolo so will remember what Nikkas says.Good luck - Brain

    Hi Brain
    Many thanks,
I am relatively sure this is not a clone box,it came in all the original but rather battered boxes, the receiver is in absolutely mint condition, with all the accessories including the recovery usb stick and the English and German quick start guides and the box is covered in German tv station information!
Still have my DM7000 which i bought new and it still works!

    Hi Nibber,
Yup - mine is running on OpenPli and was updated last week. Has been running well with a 1.5 tb disk since 2008/9, - but now systems are more well-founded and reliable I too have to think carefully about reflashing etc. Yes - they are expensive but also seem to last very well. Good luck. Brain PS Dont forget to back up lists/bouquets etc. etc before flashing or updating.

    Hi,
I don't think anything was saved on the receiver regarding lists/bouquets etc as it would appear in the channel listings there is only Channel 5 and other freesat stations saved on the receiver.
And judging by the old image on it (2012) the guy wasn't into using it for anything but the free stuff on 28.2E
Can I use Flashwizard Pro to backup anything on the receiver or do you suggest any other program?
Sorry for all questions, but I have been away from the sat scene for many years,it was the days of Seca,Conax cams (still have about 20 of them) and Diablo cams and CAS 3 interfaces, and card programmers and Titanium,AT Mega cards when I last dabbled and have virtually forgotten everything I learnt from those old days

    Hi,
iDreamX is the programme to use for programming and streaming so long as you dont have a mac computer. If you do then the nearest programmes are Cyberduck or Filezilla. I dont think you can stream on this though.
The image has programmable backup or automatic on the setup pages.
Editing and shaping lists of channels for a dreambox takes time so backing up bouquets is a real time saver. Hope all goes well with your box - I wouldnt be without them and my 8000 and 7020 are still going really well after 12/13 and 11 years respectively. Brain

Successfully updated to the latest Open PLi :respect-040:

    IMG_4894.jpg

So the receiver is a genuine Dreambox DM8000 otherwise it would have bricked the machine according to the Open PLi website.

Glad to hear of your success - as I said I still think they are great boxes and have lots of potential - I also have a 1.5tb hard disk in mine. Cheers M8 - Brain
