Spiderbox HD6000 seems dead on arrival

    Hi All,

I bought a Spiderbox HD6000 as I wanted a simple plug and play to start with and it was only £30. However, I have plugged in power with Network and HDMI connected and it wont start.

Red standby light is on steadily and it does nothing else. Won't respond at all to the power button or the remote.

    Any ideas?

    All help gratefully received.

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards

    Mark

Hi...Very odd for a new Spiderbox to do this.. on the tv do you not get any display...can you contact the seller for advice. The only way probably to fix this is by reinstalling original firmware using a PC and RS232 cables..I have succesfully done this on many occasions for these boxes.... If you live near London i might be able to help you...Regards

    Hi Karabanga,

Thanks, I'll contact the seller and see what they say.

Damn I'll need to dig out a RS232 cable (I think I still have one!) and re-enable the serial port on my PC. I live in North Herts, so not too far from London.

I'm a programmer by trade so I should be able to manage.

    Regards

Hi...another possibility is that problem may be a faulty LNB cable connection..i have also had this problem in the past. If you have the LNB cable connected then disconnect it and see if problem clears. If problem is still there then double check you have correct power cable..as wrong voltage will also give you this problem....Regards

    Hi Karabanga,

Correct voltage on power supply, no LNB cable connected. :(

Will see if supplier replies in the morning.

    Cheers

    Hi All,

OK, tried to connect to the box, no joy. Hyperterminal says it's connected, but nothing comes up on screen.

I don't think anything can be done. Looks like it's bricked on arrival.

EDIT: Instructions say "Press space on HyperTerminal every 0.5 seconds (half a second) from the time when turn on STB," Issue is it won't Turn on. Green LED never comes on. Sits at red.

    Regards

Hi Mark...I have used HyperTerminal many times and has always worked. Have you setup the session correctly??? Send details of what parameters you have setup. It can take a while for the application menu to appear on your PC..when you press the space bar do you get any messages from the box??? Best way to do it is to have the box powered OFF- run HyperTerminal- then connect the box....you should see messages appearing..keep pressing space bar till Application menu appears.. Hope this helps

    Regards..

    Hi KB,

No messages from the box. 115200, 8, N, 1 No Flow control. No messages at all coming up in Hyperterminal. I pressed space bar for a good 3 minutes with no joy. It's possible it's the USB to Serial cable I guess. I might need to pull an old PC out of the garage that has a serial port and get a crossover cable.

    Cheers

H The parameters look good to me..its probably the USB it does not like..I use an old PC with Windows XP which has a 9 pin serial port to connect to the Spiderbox 9 pin port. With HyperTerminal it works everytime . let us know how you get on... Regards

I never had any luck with usb adapters , even if they worked with a 9 pin serial mouse they never worked to any box I have tried

but an old pc with serial port using windows XP or win7 pro or ultimate worked ok every time (possibly vista too) , plus a null modem cable between them

    Thx guys,

I've got a PCI-E RS-232 card and a null modem cable both (hopefully) arriving tomorrow. Will let you know how I get on. Using Windows 10, but hopefully that won't be an issue. Windows 10 Pro, so we will see. I'll pull out an old PC if I required, but easier if I don't have to!

    Regards

Ok, Now using rs232 card and Null modem cable. Hyperterminal either does nothing or locks up. How long should I need to press the space bar for?
