Exclamation Protek 9710 and 9760 switched off.

I am having a bad week ,failed with old sky boxes and now find protek server has stopped access to 9710 and 9760 so if your box shows only 2 bouquets its time for a new box ,posted for info only,as this forum does not support it but many may have it..joe

    Hi,

    I bought a protek 9760 and installed latest Boris T firmware 1.25.
I've used many Protek receivers before and have a cousin who also has a working Protek 9760.

However when I searched channels, it only shows 2 bouquets which usually means it is time for a new box. But how have another working Protek right with me here and doesn't have a problem loading all bouquet list.
Am I missing out on something?

INFO for any member who owns a protek 9710 or 9760...
if you get a pop up saying new update software/firmware available...do you want to install...click no
myself and a few friends owned these boxs 9760...all but one of us did the update...he was working nights
our boxs rebooted...and showed no bouquets available...even after a factory reset and old patch...it stayed same
so to me this is how protek are turning off boxs...making you buy another box should you wish
the friend who was on nights...and did not do upgrade is still fully running...we had chance warn him not to install

My 9760 didn't ask re update, just went down to 2 bouquets and that was it !

I understand that some digits in the serial number refer to date of manufacture and they get turned off in batches approx 3 years after this date. Joe Maddison's went last August (first post) but mine continued working until April. Does the same apply to the 9770?

It applies to all Proteks after approx 3 years.

By reading the serial number on my Protek 9770HD my serial number denotes that it will be 3 years old in May 2016.

Does this means that the gift will no longer be avaiable from that date?

Also, if I purchase another Protek will I get 3 years out of it?

Thank you for your advice in this matter.

the protek forum answered this question for you,in other posts on that forum.the old type boxes are not being continued, they are moving to lynx type boxes,so finding a 9770 with three years may be hard to find

After 3 years the gift is usually switched off or unsupported.

You would have to check with your new Protek supplier, the date of manufacture, as you may not get the full 3 years.

gwarner - As Protek is now moving to linux boxes, eg 9900, running E2 images there may not be continuing support for the 97xx series. See joe.maddison post #7 above.

Just to let you know that I bought the Protek 9900 LX which is a Linux box and although difficult at the time and reading many tutorials in forums, it has been working well for a couple of years now. This receiver has now been superceeded for the 9910 and 9911. No doubt mine is coming to an end again.
I am looking to convert the Protek 9900LX to accept IPTV but I am unable to find how you do that, although the receiver information states "IPTV" ready!
    Any help greatly appreciated!

Sorry about that. I didn't know where to asked this question. Not many areas for the Protek receivers.
    Once again, I apologies.
