    Video files on home server

The kids have Android tablets (ICS) off Santa, and asked whether they can play videos stored on the home (PC) server. I have tried loads but have failed to do it - so I'm asking for advice from anyone who has managed it.

I can access the files via file managers (Xplore or Astro) and I have installed MX player and codecs. However accessing the files via the file manager then selecting Play With any of the installed players, results is a "Sorry this file cannot be played" - or something like that. However, if I put the file on a USB stick MX player plays it very happily, so the file format is not the issue.

    Can anyone help - please?

SORTED!! It appears that I should have used ES File Explorer - then the file will play in any player!!

The network files are on a Win7 PC, and the tablets are chinese 7" ones running ICS.
