softcams would be for a reciever that can emulate a cam.

The Mr Cam is a piece of kit that can decode an encrypted channel with keys from multiple providers, these cams are either updated by a cas interface or by programming with smart cards, or via the reciever remote if compatible.

Most receivers since the the late 90s have had capabiliites to flash unnofficioal firmware which it could emulate multiple cams for multiply encryptions. and just needed updating with keys, often a softcam key file would hold many keys.

the next step was card sharing which took a different path away from hardware, instead of encrytion breaking, it extracted keys from an official subscribtion card with a card reader, with the ability to share the key to another box , across the internet via the ethernet , this method spread across called cshare, sharing clines , unfortunately the payservers diluted it and made it mass blackmarket.

As it started hitting the wallets of the providers, it got shut down, as they rolled out boxes that are now paired to the cards, and upto now no one has found a way publically to intercept and decrypt, to my knowledge anyway.

It used to be a huge badge of honor for enthusiasts to break a code, but with iptv and people that just want things to work out of the box, Its lost its appeal and need.

A matrix cam is like a cb radio compared to a smartphone , but considering its age, its great to see theres still life in it.

Hi...thanks for the info...the golden days of the satellites have truly gone. IPTV is ok but will never be as good as satellite quality use to be.. Regards
