    2% signal quality..tried everything!

    Hi all..

I'm having a problem with my set-up, I have installed a 1m Technomate dish with a TM-2300 super motor and a technomate universal single LNB(0.2db). Trying to get this working with my Spiderbox 7000HD using USALS..

    The problem..

I have 70-80% signal strength on most of the sat's 28.2E, 16E, 13E 0.8W etc, but have 2% signal quality(which looks to be 0%!!) The motor is moving the dish ok, I have checked elevation of the dish from 20 - 35 degrees moving 1 degree at a time, changed the cable from the motor to the LNB, double checked the settings in the reciever to check they are set correctly

    Latitude: 52.7149° (52.7 N)
    Longitude: -1.3816° (001.4 W)

Checked the LNB postion, Reset the motor(which has the green light on), and still cannot get the bloody thing to work....

If anyone else has had this problem or has any suggestions to try something else I would be forever grateful.

    Mark

    Hi there.
Yes I'm just setting up a new dish and motor and have moved the patio stand so other than the receiver I'm in the same boat as you.
Start like this: reset motor to 0
rotate the whole thing dish and motor by hand to true south and make sure your pole is vertical. this is vital not optional.
Tighten up the lot then move dish by usals to thor which is at 0.8 and there fore very near 0.
If your dish has moved a tiny bit to the right - west - usals should be working.
Try BBC world news on thor which is FTA and see what happens . . .

ok , first task is to ensure the box is ok , so put it onto a fixed feed from a sly dish on 28.2e and ensure channels like bbc and itv work ( the fta channels , freesat channels )

once you have done this then you have proved that the spiderbox is ok

the signal strength is largely irrelevant , its the quality that actually counts

you havent said if the motor was working beforehand , or if it was setup professionally or not

assuming it is setup correctly , put your longitude and latitude into the usals and select 0.8 west , and let it go to thor. then check fta channels like bbc world and cctv news and the music channel , as they are all fta

if you do not get these , then maybe the motor and dish are not setup correctly as they work fine for me , so start by getting those 3 channels on 0.8w with usals set correctly

once you get those 3 channels on thor you can check 28e and 30w , and 42e and 45w etc

the above assumes no shorts or faults on the wiring , and that the lnb is working ok

you also did not say which channel list you are using or if its up to date

so the first job is to check the spiderbox on a fixed and working dish like a sly dish

then its check the usals is set correctly and that thor is ok

then you can check other satellites , but if you get no quality on any sat then you cannot be sure you are actually on the correct sat , so your first post contradicts itself simply because you cannot offer any proof that the sats you say you are getting are actually the correct ones , the proof being the channels you get corresponding to the sat you are pointed at , and fta channels are invaluable for proving this , as in bbc world the the music channel on 0.8 west which is your reference satellite

Thanks guys, will have another go and try all your advice. thanks.

No not professionally installed, doing it my self as my new (frustrating hobby).

The motor works ok and moves the dish. Using Billy bits 080611 channel list..presume it is up to date..

Thanks again so far and will report back...

ok , so we can assume you are setting it up from scratch and have posted in the spiderbox forum whereas it should have been posted in the dish forum as its a dish and motor setup issue

so put your usals into billybits channel list on the spiderbox , and save it

    longitude 001.4w
    latitude 52.7n

    and save

then select bbc world or the music channel on 0.8w and let the motor go to the correct position

also make sure the elevation on the motor is set to 52.7 or thereabouts and lock it

now set the offset dish to the correct details for your dish , so if the offset is 26 degrees like my triax then set it to 26-7.3 = 18.7 ( where 7.3 = 60 - 52.7 )

so in that example above the dish is set at about 19 degrees

now with the spiderbox locked onto that fta channel on thor , and a tv connected to it via scart or phono , move the whole motor about the pole until you get that fta channel on screen , then peak it by pressing info twice so you get good quality AND good signal , and you can see and hear it

Then lock it up , and then try bbc and itv on 28.2e , and try fta channels on 30w as well

if this goes to plan , try 39e and 42e , and then try individual ones like 13e and 19e and 4.8e and 5w and 12.5w , always checking fta channels

once you have fine tuned it and get all the sats kicking in , you can try service+ channels etc

You don't have a stray bit of outer braid touching the inner cable?

If the cable is old and not a new install, try snipping an inch or so off the ends as there may have been water ingress.

I am sure this happened to me back in the early 90's.

Installation has been made easier over years...
so, make sure you have the correct details (longitude and latitude) of your area put in the Ucas in the motor setup menu.
Now turn the dish to any channel of Astra 1 or Astra 2 (28.2e), or Hotbird etc...
These 3 sats are the easiest to get anyway. Once your motor turned the dish to the desired sat, Manually rotate the dish around the pole in adjusting the elevation on the dish (DO NOT TOUCH THE LATITUDE SETTING ON THE MOTOR, most of them are around 51.9 and 53.9 depending od your location, this is the same one as the one you input in the menu of your box).
I found Astra 2 easiest to use because I always can copy the rough position of the neighbourgs sky dishes, use it as a guide...
Once you get signal quality to its maximum, normally the other sats should be there.
    Good luck.

If the OP has a strong (ish) signal level, I can't see it just being a case of the dish not being properly aligned.

    Hi theboymark,

Look's like the elavation is just off,
you will recieve a Sig strength even if the dish is pointing to the ground.

Tune reciever into BBc world Thor 0.8w.
First move the dish with the motor to 0.8w, then tweek the dish
    till you pickup BBc World.

    Bf...

You can be on the wrong satellite and the transponders show up as live because the same frequencies are in use on that satellite as well, start from scratch with a fta channel as a single satellite fixed dish set up.

Find out where you are first, as stated 1W is an excellent starting point, dont try to cross all your bridges in one go, do them one at a time.

As mentioned the pole has to be 100% vertical on a motorised set up, no errors are allowed at all.

That was the reason why I posted the Strongest TP List, so that he would know which TP to use for whatever Sat he was trying to find, this happens regularly with 19 - 16 - 13 East, with people try to find Eutelsat @ 16 east, with people convinced they are that sat and when asked which FTA channels they are receiving, they are then told that they are on 13 or 19 east and not 16east.

I think you should check your longtitude usals you are showing a minus degree?
