Exclamation Are the spiderboxes still ok to buy?

    Hi,

I was planning to buy a spiderbox hd 9000 as it is a good entry level reciever for a sat noob!

However i see that the service+ seems to have some recent issues! Is it still worth buying this box or should i go for something else?

Whats happened to the service+ anyway?

service plus was down for a short while and is being rebuilt and the details are on the forum

its a good receiver with or without service+ , so treat the service plus as a bonus

Really easy to use and most of the time comes virtually set up. I got mine off Sat Paul (well known internet auction site that rhymes with peeday) and he is really helpful... sets it all up via your location so it really is plug and play. Just make sure your dish is properly aligned though as it is pretty sensitive.
Service + had issues but now it has sorted out a lot of the problems. It doesn't stop you using other providers though (if you can find reliable ones) and for an entry level HD receiver, you will be impressed with ease of use and the fantastic picture quality. Build a bit plasticy but you get what you pay for!! I am happy with mine now that Service + is getting back to a better selection of channels. Just hope there are more to come though as we did have more before it all went belly up!!

Simple answer Yes!! Especially as you describe yourself as a noob! A motorised dish would be desirable to go with it though! Exceptional service always from Lee @ Goldwafers.

If buying for free gift then no as it is not reliable anymore.

It was always the concern. A gift helped shift alot of boxes that wouldn't have appealed to so many.

Although with the new range of spiderboxes, it's a bit surprising that the gift is no longer reliable.

So hopefully just a glitch that will be sorted.

I'm watching closely, as I was tempted by the new range but after having my fingers burnt with the azbox i'm more reluctant to dive in and buy another box.

There is always the Protek range if you want an alternative, and it also has its own "Gift" without a time limitation so I'm led to believe.

It is more expensive but if the channels open......

I bought the Spiderbox and had the full "Gift" for about 3 weeks before it went down, like many others I am still hoping it will return to its former glory but it is taking an awful long time and there hasn't been much news from the Spider team recently in fact since the recent "optimisation" it has got worse if anything, not better.

The Spiderbox has a great picture especially in HD although as its the only HD receiver I've ever owned I have nothing to compare it with. It's a shame the EPG isn't better but again there are not many receivers that do have a good EPG. I recall reading about one that had an EPG as good as a freesat EPG but can't recall which receiver that was.

The Spider is a good box but it is a long way from being perfect.
Would I have bought mine when I did if I knew the gift was going to go down and the repair was as slow as it has been? Probably not, I may well have gone down the Protek route!

However if the gift does come back to the way it was for the first 3 weeks I had my Spider then its a bargain and well worth getting.

Ordered mine on wednesday last week and here 18 hours later the next day.

Got it up and running using service + and so far its good but I am sure there is more to come. I got the dual tuner version as our sponsor is out of stock of single tuner.

    we are borg

Apparently there is only 1 new 9000HD combo left for sale in the country (England).......... unless it has already been sold.
