    Premium plus fan

    My Azbox has a fan which is quite noisy for me.
    It is quite strange that the design has been changed from standard Premium decoder which was very cool and does not need any fan.
    Now I see this choice, instead of using a passive cooling system.
    I don't know if the fan on my receiver simply has some problem and it's so noisy also for other users.
    What is your impression?
    Did you tried anything to reduce the noise for i.e.
    - replacing the fan
    - keep the fan off, simply using external hdd for all recording features?

    I read on other forum that, for some users, if you have an internal hard disk, it is recommended to use the fan to avoid heating issues, expecially on the tuners area.

    Any experience?

    The fan is quite noisy but not too bad.

    It's not so bad that I need to do anything to make it quieter right now.

    Thanks Xanadu.
    Maybe only my box is quite noisy due to some hardware issue and I hope it is not a general problem.
    If I understood the german procedure they simply add a resistance in the fan power supply line. Do you know the resistor value?

    It's a 27 ohm resistor in series with the red wire.

    Have also heard of someone replacing the fan with a 12volt version Jamicon Type: KF0410B1H-012-243 40x40, and fitting a Zalman Fanmate 2 Variable Speed Fan Controller.

    I installed the Fan SUNON VAPO MagLev.

    Product Symbol: KD1204PFV1.11A (Two wires)
    Model: KDE1204PFV1 (Two wires)

    * Dimensions 40x40x10mm
    * Vapo bearing
    * Voltage: 12V
    * Voltage operating range 4.5 .. 13.8 V
    * Efficiency of 13.5 m3 / h.
    * Current consumption 0.09 A
    * The power of 1.1 W
    * Noise level 32dB
    * 7000rpm rotation speed
    * 17g weight

    When DC 4.8V which is the power connector in the Premium Plus works very quietly.
    You just need to unsolder wires from the original fan and solder to KDE1204PFV1, that's all.
    To mount the fan, you can use rubber plugs.

    Datasheet - Model: KDE1204PFV1 (Two wires)

    I see the software option to turn off the fan.
    Do you think it can be dangerous for the box or the HDD? I come from a Premium but previously there was no fan...

    Yes! I think it can be dangerous to turn off the fan. The standard premium has a different case with more holes.

    It does get very warm with the fan off, so definitely keep it on.

    Hmm I don't have a HDD installed in the Premium plus.

    Mine gets warm OK but not hot, not nearly as hot like say a dm800.

    Already funtions overhere for more then 1,5 years with fan turned off.

    I you wanna replace the fan I would advice a Noiseblocker X1

    So you run the AZ HD premium without any ventilation and have both tuners working active including hardware acceleration ?

    it is already strange that as a vendor that you allow to disable the fan..

    As if it is a extra feature, but not a necessity..

    I bought two identical Premium+ systems, one of them was a little noisy and the other one was very noisy and rattled a bit. I complained to the shop http://www.tv-radio-shoppen.dk and they sent me a new one free of charge. Replacement took around 5 minutes, it's a very simple procedure. The replacement fan was from the same manufacturer but the current rating was a bit lower. Now it makes a lot less noise, but it still has a different, higher pitch sound than my other Premium+. Maybe the OP has a defective fan too?

    Hi to all with the fan problem, the noise is caused by the metal where the fan is attached to. When the fan turns with high rpm it blows air through that metal wholes where the fan is attached, so it make noise, it is just like you blow air through piece of paper which have many wholes.
    the solution is to remove the screws then attache the fan inside box with some wholes and screws.
