    Email address compromised

    My cousin has had his h o t m a i l account compromised.

Its sent out emails to all his contacts about cheap mobile phones...and then deleted all his contacts.

He changed his password but what else can he do?

Hi, I'm not computer literate but I suppose he needs to also check that his PC hasnt been infected such he'll have other passwords stolen.
Alternatively if he accidentally gave it away by using a shared computer like in a Internet Cafe he should be OK. In the latter case I always chose the browser option to delete all history before logging off.

Download Proces***plorer from microsoft and check on the running processes. Anti Virus programs are not 100% perfect, and something may be running that they haven't found.

This sounds like a trojan of some sort, you might also want to get TCPView (also MS) to check if any net connections are siphoning data from the PC.

Another check could be to see if there is a rootkit compromise, Google for resources to check for this.

    It's a typical h o t m a i l scam.
Changing his password is normally enough.
    I have been caught out twice with h o t m a i l scams

    More than 10000+ H o t m a i l Accounts Exposed in October 2009,Gmail and Y a h o o were also affected by the compromise.

    Some does and don'ts:

Do change your passwords on a regular basis (every six months or so)
Do use long complex pass-phrases rather than passwords where you can
Do change all of your passwords if you notice something suspicious
    Do take identity theft seriously
    Do use up-to-date anti-virus and a firewall
Do NOT click on links in emails, ever
Do NOT use the same password at multiple sites
