I've owned this receiver for a good 4/5 years and never done anything with it in terms of updating firmware/patches etc and I'm afraid I'm a bit 'green' in this area.
My question is, Technomate's website has no software available specifically for the 1600 CI, can I use the 1500 CI software or will this cause tears?

It will cause you tears they where a completley different receiver if i remember, the 1500 was more like the 1000 series but the 1600 was special.

as above, only use the correct model firmware , in your case the 1600 one
the firmware section here has various versions for your box , all old because your box is old and cannot do a lot nowadays
I would suggest you buy a spiderbox 6000 HD or similar
Cheers, I probably will look at upgrading to a HD receiver, I'll give it a stab with that link anyway, just to have a play if nothing else
