Doubt it, they still using 30 Mbps

I see the Hispasat test are now using 15 Mbps, I haven't got a UHD TV, so can't compare that with the current promos on Astra etc.

Wouldn't be surprised if Sly try 15Mbps at some point

PS. Reckon the launch will coincide with the atart of the new footie season, Sly have done a deal with Sony for UHD movies, which are believed to be available round about September time, so they'll want a fair amount of boxes out there so peeps can buy the movies, using the footie as the launch vehicle would achieve this

Sony are 1 of the few studio's finishing off @ 4k while others are still finishing in 2k and upscaling. Concentrating on selling the benefits of HDR

Older Samsung 4k tv's could construct the quad hd stream into a uhd image in real time, don't know if the newer 1's can. Being 16apsk and 4.2.2 might also be a non starter.

avc encoded Quad HD is still the prefared UHD feed delievery method. Most is NS3 modulated so gets missed. :(

Hmmm. .... didn't know that about Samsung TVs. I guess using 16apsk and 4:2:2 would rule out anybody else watching it Also there was no audio, still thought they would have scrambled it though.

There have been a couple of 'test' transmissions of Opera/theatre lately using H265, I reckon it will take time for H265 encoders to find their way to flyaways just yet.

FYI, each feed was about 22Mbs, making a total of nearly 90Mbps for full video

4 x 20mbit avc will destroy the 25-30mbit hevc stream. You could probably demux all 4 quadrants and use avisynth to piece them together. TSreader to FFMPEG to avisynth, would be cpu intensive though.

was the audio dolby e? normally only 1 of the quadrants will contain an audio track.

The First UHD demo by Eutelsat was quad HD. Samsung Tv's could play this.

I wonder if when the broadcasters do start there 4k services, if they will broadcast in 4:2:2 and 16 or 32APSK

I would have though they would use dvb-s2x to squeeze more into the limited bandwidth. HEVC 10bit is the norm.

You are probably right, I was just thinking if they used 4:2:2 it would give them some extra security as very few boxes can open 4:2:2 and thats before any cs or other hacks required.

4.2.2 and 10bit is supported in HEVC, shame they didn't add it to avc. I think the demo loop on on 13e is 4.2.2 10 bit hevc.

Now seems to have moved to 11758H 29500 QPSK 8/9 DVB-S2 with ID 9006

Bit rate is now around 40Mbps
