I have just got a sony w580i but it is locked to orange and i need it on o2.
Can anyone help me unlock the phone to any network.

It can be unlocked but it has to be done by a cable and it all depends on what firmware is already on it, you can do it with a normal sony cable, if you have got one i wil show you how to do it.

First of all you will need to use the Sony Ericsson update service to ensure your phone can communicate with the unlocking software.

This can be downloaded here:

Note only the phones listed on the software will need to do this. If no updates are available for your handset then it is up to date.

DONT WHATEVER YOU DO UPDATE YOUR PHONE ON THE SONY WEBSITA AS IT WILL UPDATE THE FIRMWARE AND YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO UNLOCK IT AS IT WILL CHANGE THE CID

Once you have updated your phone you will be able to use the software to unlock your phone:

First of all download the tutorial here:

Please read the tutorial carefully before beginning the unlocking process.

You will need to download the unlocking software here:

And lastly you will need the firmware for your phone which you can get here:

Simply click on your model and download the firmware. Usually has "Main Generic" or similar in the title.

whatever you do dont update the phone on the sony website as it will update the cid of the phone to 54 or 53 and these can not be unlocked.

What i would do is change the firmware aswell as unlocking it, get rid of all the orange stuff on it, i followed this and is was easy to do and the good thing was you can just use your normal cable.

I was on the sony website and there is an update for the w580i
but i am not sure what to do next

its okay, dont worry about asking questions thats what its all about.

just download the software to update the phone but dont update it, this will just put the driver and everything on your pc to comunicate with the phone.

then read the tutorial and download the unlock software and open it, then download a generic firmware to put on your phone.

When you start the software it will say flash and tick the unlock

I done three of these before christmas and the first one i updated on the website, because it updated to cid54 i could not unlock it, so dont bother updating it on there.

i put the w810i firmware on mine from that original link but on here they have the firmware for w580.

Just a few more questions

My phone is cid 52
Please can you tell me what firmware i need off topsony

They have red 52 and 2 red 53 firmware files.

Then do i put it in with the xss software or the setool2lite

use a generic 52 firmware european english one, if you dont like the firmaware you can always change it.

use the setool2lite software remember to tick the unlock and the bypass option

I put this file in with setool2lt i dont no what i have done wrong But now phone will not turn on.
Have you any idea what it could be.
This is the file i put in

I can connect to the phone o.k but it will not take GDFS back up file.

It comes up on screen

CS loader refusal to start GDFS services
Error is 29 Failed that is fatal

I have never seen that before, try and connect the charger to the phone and see what happens, is the phone powering up?

I will charge battery overnight and try tomorrow .
And if that dont work it will be getting the lump hammer treatment

it can be bought back from the dead even if you cant charge it i have seen a lead that you can attach a 9v battery to it, to power up the phone without a battery in the phone.

I got the phone sorted

I put in a main generic mbn file that matched phone
amereica 2 fbn that matched phone
used the sim unlock software and made a file from main generic file
then flashed all on phone
after that i put custom pack america 2 on the phone off xs++ software for w600 mobile.

working fine now :respect-056:
