    funeral costs

as a few of you may know i live up in newcastle and just had a quote of £20,000 for a basic cremation... no flowers, just one car and the service held at the cremitorium.

    does this sound about right......?

cheers for getting back to me

When my father passed away 8 years ago it was about £3-4 thousand for the funeral. i think £20,000 is a bit excessive, i would price around should be able to get a quote much less than that.

Wife's family buried her gran last year, 2 cars, small church ceremony was about 8k
20k sound steep to say the least.

Sorry about your loss but £20,000 for a basic cremation sounds very, very steep.

_http://www.whatprice.co.uk/health/funeral-cost.html gives typical costs for the various elements.

    It pays to shop around.

AFAIR in the UK the funeral costs come off the estate before the caculation of death duties - that is why some people splash out.

Definitely over the top! My cousin could probably do you a top notch, horse drawn glass hearse for ~£10,000 and that includes travelling up from South Wales.

Which company in the North East charges that???

That has to be a typo or it's definitely a scam artist at work.

Go to your Co-op funeral service in Benwell and they'll charge you between £1k-£3k depending upon what you want.

The estate of the deceased is being ripped off if it's really £20k. The quote should also be itemised so you can see what's costing so much.

Sorry to hear of your loss marra, i'm from the north east as well (stanley) and my mother passed away last year, her funeral cost £3500, with 2 cars, funeral car, flowers service etc so £20,000 is bang out of order, tell them so as well mate, bloody diabolical people exploiting the grief of others, NO EXCUSE FOR TRYING TO CHARGE THIS KIND OF MONEY.

just give them a call to show them my disgust with them to find out it was in fact a typo... an extra 0 was some how added to the quotation... bit weird tho as all the items in the breakdown dont add up correctly ether.
i have been told i have to call in to get it re assessed but have been told it should be no more than £2500.

makes me wonder tho.... if i had not have pulled them would they have went ahead and charged me the full whack?
