    Mercury Rising (film) - 10.45pm
Prior to his box-office success with The Sixth Sense, Bruce Willis was paired with another young lead in this minor thriller, which is a tad more imaginative than most action fare. Willis stars as a renegade government operative who becomes protector of an autistic child (Miko Hughes) who has cracked the supposedly impenetrable Mercury security code. Alec Baldwin plays the crooked national security man who’s determined to hunt them down. Director Harold Becker manages to impart a little depth to the relationship between Willis and Hughes among all the chases and shoot-outs, but the psychological backdrop is too contrived.

    Saturday 13th December 2008
    True Lies (film) - 10.40pm
Arnie plays the unshaken, unstirred secret agent, always saving the world in time to get home for dinner with his wife and kids, who are blissfully unaware of his dangerous job. Aside from the truly spectacular action, there’s exceptional comedy support from Tom Arnold and a winning performance from Jamie Lee Curtis, who transforms from timid housewife to confident heroine. It may be wildly implausible and a trifle misogynistic, but, on a pure excitement level, Cameron’s blockbuster is unbeatable entertainment.

    Sunday 14th December 2008
Star Wars: Attack of the Clones (film) - 4.05pm

    Sunday 14th December 2008

But this year there is one extra person auditioning - school dinner lady Ronnie! For years she has dreamed of being a performer like her friends, and asks Jez to give her some lessons to prepare. The only problem is that she cannot sing! But has Jez got the guts to tell her the painful truth?

    Saturday 20th December 2008
    Honey (film) - 2.40pm

    Saturday 20th December 2008
Britannia High Finale (drama) - 5.30pm

Featuring an unmissable combination of drama and live performance.

    Sunday 21st December 2008
Clash of the Santas (drama) - 9.00pm
This is as fluffy as the trim on Santa’s costume and as daft as the idea that an overweight middle-aged man could ever squeeze down your chimney. But let’s not quibble, because this one-off comedy drama, the latest spin-off from Christmas Lights, reunites the popular Robson Green and Mark Benton as competitive brothers-in-law. This time they’re taking part in an international Santa competition in Lithuania. By the time they’ve had a go at the likes of turkey bowling and mince pie munching, there’s barely time to get home to their families for Christmas. The storyline is thinner than gravy in the Scrooge household, so just think of this as a vehicle for Green and Benton to be lovable chappies against a festive backdrop of Santas and snow.

    Tuesday 23rd December 2008
    Ali G Indahouse (film) - 10.40pm
Outrageous comedy in which self-styled voice of youth Ali G unwittingly becomes embroiled in a plot to overthrow the prime minister when he is surprisingly elected to be an MP.

A miserable, bullied council worker, whose only solace is Elvis Presley, starts to embezzle funds from the parking meters it is her job to empty. Realising how easily she is able to ‘borrow’ the money and not get caught, she begins to find uses for the extra cash. But as her spending increases from small items for her family to Elvis memorabilia that makes her feel good about herself, an internal audit is scheduled for her department and she realises that her days are numbered.

    Saturday 27th December 2008
    Bird on a Wire (film) - 11.05pm
Fast-paced action as an informer goes on the run when his witness protection programme collapses and leaves him a prime target for the drug barons he once betrayed. He uncharitably drags his former girlfriend into the chase, and together they set off on a cross-country adventure.

Wild at Heart (drama) - 8.30pm to 9.30pm
Danny is drafted in to help with an outbreak of rabies. As the disease spreads up the food chain, Danny falls out with Alice - the feisty British vet sent to work with him. When Tula, the baby elephant, is attacked, Danny has to decide whether he can trust Alice’s judgement.

    Unleased (film) - 11.15pm to 1.05am
Jet Li plays a sort of human Rottweiler, who has been raised and kept caged like an animal, and is only unleashed when gangster Bob Hoskins needs him to do the one thing he knows - fight. Set in Glasgow (though you’d scarcely credit it from the accents), this has Li rediscovering his humanity, courtesy of the relationship he builds with blind piano tuner Morgan Freeman. As with most Li films, the best bits are the action ones: they’re fast, brutal and with a feel of the real about them. Unlike most Li films, the in-between bits are quite good, too - odd, but interesting. While this will appeal mainly to his hardcore fans, there’s some potential interest for a wider audience, and this is certainly Li’s most interesting non-Hong Kong work to date.

    Monday 26th January 2009

Ruth is forced to approach Lucy when Steve bungles his revenge plot. Will a desperate Steve find a way out of the chilling mess he has created?

    Piers Morgan On… - 9.00pm to 10.00pm
Piers Morgan pays a visit to one of the most dynamic cities on the planet. 20 years ago this was mainly desert, but from the world’s tallest building to the 7-star hotel suite at 14,000 pounds a night, the excessiveness of it all is just mind-boggling. Piers mixes with Dubai’s movers and shakers, and meets some of the 120,000 Brits living the ex-pat lifestyle. The city’s construction bonanza is in a race against time to be completed before the oil runs out - but can they avoid the credit crunch?

Friday 30th January 2009(no longer in HD)
    Tremors 3 (film) - 2.20am to 4.00am
Comedy horror. Burt Gummer returns to Perfection, Nevada to find the town has become a tourist attraction after the battles against the Graboid creatures 11 years ago. He thinks he has Graboid-proofed his life, but he doesn’t count on the arrival of a new and more dangerous kind of monster, and the interference of the government. Burt and his friends will have to use all their wits and weapons to protect the town.
