Sony uses Blu-ray technology to make efficient anti-glare LCD panels

Sony is planning to use its Blu-ray Disc production technology to manufacture highly efficient anti-glare LCD panels for use in consumer electronics products.

"Moth Eye" produces a display film covered in many minute bumps, and is supposed to cut surface reflection to 0.1% or less for visible light -- at 1/30th the level of conventional LCD films. This has the effect of boosting a monitor's light display efficiency by around 10%.

Sony hopes to use the technology as early as 2010.
