Can we confirm that none of these models , except the EP10 are region free or have a region free hack available ? I'd like to replace by old , but trusty Sony DVP-725D DVD player (multiregion and no macrovision) but over 50% of my disks are R1 so I really need a multiregion version .

These HD dvd players toshiba ep30 and ep35 are the newer models without a region free hack as yet. The older ep10 has a region free hack.

Yeah the EP10 was the first of the EP models but was still considered the better model build wise etc

Seems they were selling the EP10 models the other day for £59.99 at the same place bit of useless information for you

If I was looking for a good SD DVD player I would get the "Oppo Digital DV-983H" which is due for release soon

Oppo have always been a good player using high end chipsets but this new model uses the same video processor
as the "DVDO iScan VP30" video upscaler which costs £1000

Plus you would get playback of other formats like Xvid/Divx

All their previous models have all supported multiregion

Its probably going to cost around £200 though so I guess it depends how much you like your SD DVDs

    PS : I have a Sony DVP-735D

    @TNT
200 quid isn't bad considering my Sony cost me around 550 quid back when it was launched in 99 (?) . I'll keep my eye open for that Oppo .
    Cheers

The one I mentioned also has a USB input so you can hook up a USB hard drive or flash memory say for Xvid playback etc

    Theres a mini review below

    _http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/cd-dvd-player-product-reviews/dvd-players/oppo-digital-dv-983h-dvd-player---a-secrets-dvd-benchmark-review.html

Cant say for certain that there will be a region free hack though but I would be surprised if not as all previous modes have

I'll PM you with places that are likely to have them as they are kind of hard to find outside the US

Maybe a blu ray will come out with region free sd dvd playback

HD DVD titles STILL being SOld in USA, Totally agreee with chelseaboi regarding this. Im lookin at the XBOX Add-on but a Standalone HIGH END HD box could be grabbed at a fraction of the buy price.

Can we start a HD Disc lending club and Share Disc's via post? Any late Disc's or Damaged/scatched curry stains w**** stains on disc's the culprit could be flogged etc

I have some contacts in US so could buy 20-30 discs via the online store's.. just a thought. Once you see a HD DVD its very addictive you want more

The £49.99 jobbie is now sold out m8. I got mine today. Nice machine, real good quality. The HD DVD's look great and I can see no difference between the blu ray I have on the ps3 and the hd dvd. The menu transitions just like the blu ray are really cool. Up scaling works well and standard dvd's look pretty good. I have just backed up one of my region 1 dvd's and put it on a blank disc to try on the upscaling and it looks real nice. Great machine at a bargain price and now waiting for the 6 hd discs.

Just took it out the box and the build quality is very good, ive just started watching THE BOURNE SUPREMACY and the picture is top notch, also tried a normal dvd and the upscaling is really good aswell.

I also tried a copy and that worked okay aswell. Ithink ive just bagged a bargain well chuffed

Lots of titles that where meant to be Blu Ray only in the US where also available on hd dvd in other regions one of the
benefits of hd dvd amazon was one place that stocked them from different regions so I guess thats the place to look
