Pioneer LCD TV's on the horizon?

The electronics giant Pioneer has indicated that they it will enter the small screen LCD TV market later this year.

For over ten years Pioneer have exclusively manufactured large (42in +) plasma screens and although they sold over 700,000 units worldwide in 2007, they are responding to the growing demand for LCD TV's and the huge potential for unit sales this sector offers. Also, with Sharp recently taking a 14% stake in the company, LCD production would seem like a natural progression.

Jim Catcheside, Pioneer's product manager was quoted recently .. "I think it would be natural to assume that following Sharp's 14 per cent share holding in Pioneer we might well see LCD products into our line-up in the not too distant future".

Pioneer have not released any details on the nature any future LCD TV products, but Toshiya Yamamoto, head of the company's global marketing strategy was keen to emphasize their commitment to large screen Plasma production saying ... "The company has no plans to develop LCD TVs for 42-inch and larger segments".
