    Hi SS,

If your DVD has Component out (Not composite), Yes It will
upscale your TV picture to HD, but it will be 576p, if your TV pannel is
Progressive scan (Or has Component IN).
Goto Asda if no Component lead ( Red Green Blue (RGB) ) are the colours
to look for (£6.99 per set last time I looked) £50 and £100 at Comet.
On my HD2000 STB I view HD in 576p through the Component lead
and its just as good quality as 720p (Because the picture is to dark
to view through the HDMI socket).

    Hi xanadu,

576p will NOT playback true HD as on a (B-ray HDDVD player) but
your Eye will find it hard to tell its not true HD (720p or 1080i or 1080p) through the Component lead on a standard DVD Player that has (Component OUT).

I linked up my Standard DVD recorded (Progressive scan ENABLED) to
a progressive scan LCD with component IN.
Recorded a HD Film on (Premiere world in 720p) and 10 out of 10 said, you
c"not tell its recored, the quality is as good as viewing Live HD.

Yeah it doesn't matter what leads you use HD DVD discs can not be read by a normal DVD player.

if you stick it in your dvd player you will see it will not play but you probably don't want to unwrap it so that you can get a refund

As already said, if it's a combo, one side is HD-DVD, the other side a normal DVD: of course, the DVD side will play in a normal DVD player, not the HD-DVD side (for example, the Star Trek original series digitalized in HD are combo discs, and no "DVD only" series will be published).

I'm not too sure if it's a "combo" Zyknyp . I'll have to wait and see when it arrives (Blade Runner 5 disk special edition briefcase from the States) . Even if it doesn't play then I can sell it on Eb@y and hopefully get my money back .

    Thanks
