Lite-on HDD/DVD ??
Just bought a Lite-on DVD recorder with a built in hard drive [160gig] it siezed after 2 hours . I've taken the drive out and it's a Maxtor 40gig drive that's in it. I am supposed to send it back , but I'm curious as to wether I can fit another drive in . I have 2 brand new Samsung 40gig [7200rpm[ drives spare .I'll only fit 1 in though :-) If I can . I know I should send the damn thing back as it looks like the company is ripping people off . any advice chaps ?

This is taken from the liteon forums.
There can be some problems with the hard drive tools on the machine.
If possible use a computer to prepare the drive, fdisk and format it to fat32. Set the jumper to cs.
Hope this helps.

Many thanks whompus ,I should try to see if it does work but I only have 2 days left before my RMA expires , so I think I should just send it back for a refund.

Glad you're sorted now, have you tried the original hard drive in another computer to see if it just needs fdisking and reformatting or is the drive totally dead?

Yeah , I did it straight away , it's just started to click after I accessed the drive to read the folders . I did put it back into the recorder for one last try but , it just clicked and came up with an error message. To be honest , I'm not sure if these things are re-furbished units although it didn't say that in the advert .The hard drive could be worn out .Anyway I have another new Samsung ,and a 80gig Maxtor as spares .The main thing it's working fine now and recording with no problems.
