Powerful British film noir starring Laurence Harvey as Miles Ravenscourt, an amoral, psychotic playboy who incites three men who are down on their luck to commit a mail van robbery, which goes badly wrong.

14:55 The One That Got Away (1958)

The true story of the only German prisoner-of-war taken in Britain who managed to escape and get back to Germany. Roy Baker's film gave German actor Hardy Kruger his first role in a British film as Oberleutnant Franz von Werra of the Luftwaffe, captured when he crashed his Messerschmitt in 1940. Taken before an interrogating officer, he bet a magnum of champagne against ten cigarettes that he would escape in six months and made two audacious attempts to get away, succeeding at the third when, part of a group of prisoners being transferred to Canada, he escaped from the train and and crossed the St Lawrence River into the then neutral United States. The real von Werra eventually reached Germany, returned to flying and was credited with downing eight more planes before being killed in action.

Kurt Neumann's classic horror film, scripted by best-selling author James Clavell, stars Patricia Owens as Helene Delambre who tells, in flashback, the story that culminates in her bringing down a hydraulic press on the head and arm of her scientist husband Andre. As she tells her brother-in-law Francois and police Inspector Charas of the matter-transference device Andre had invented and the terrible accident that befalls him, the horror mounts, with an ending that is one of cinema's most terrifying climaxes.

But, because of a previous trauma, Spooner is a technophobe and doesn't believe that all robots are harmless. Despite opposition from both his superiors and the company, he investigates further and soon his suspicions centre on one robot, Sonny. Is "he" one of an army of conscious, violent robots ready to challenge their human masters?
