LNB Installation?

Hi,
About 2 yrs ago i installed an invacom 0.3db Lnb onto my 1.2m ChannelMaster.
Because this was the 1st time i ever installed an Lnb on my 8yr old dish, i was a wee bit nervous that i would cock up on my roof.
Anyway, i installed it and everything was working fine until last week when a lot of my channels lost signal,other channels like mvision and tqla were all showing strong signals.
I thought the loss of signal on many channels was due to the high winds and torrential rain weve been having in Scotland/Glasgow. Some members even suggested that the incline had gone out of position.

So today it was bright and sunny, so i decided to go on the roof and have a look.
The dish incline was fine, no loose movement at all. But what i reckon was the problem is the LNB. Originally when i fitted it i took the plastic cap off the Lnb revealing a yellow coloured Plastic film on the Lnb. I thought the cap was just on for protection.
So looking at the Lnb now, the plastic film was torn and the Lnb was semi full of water, which i dried off with some kitchen towel. Since i had no cap, i sealed the front of the LNb with two layers of cling film.
This has now given me the signal back on some of the stations.

Is my LNB now buggered or will it be soon, or do i replace it with a new one or just try to get a spare cap.
For Future knowledge and use, am i supposed to leave the plastic coloured cap on all Lnbs or do i remove it?

lnb's do hate moisture , there is quite delicate electronics inside ..............

It is possible , since you dried it , it is working again .........but it is prone to fail becouse of moisture.

normally the front "cap" is sealed with silicone .

the best bet is get a new one and don't remove the front cap.

Prices have dropped , so you can get a 0.2 for less than your old one.

As stated, lnb's are quite cheap nowadays. I have two spares sitting in the cupboard, just in case.

Is it just a matter of taking the old one off and fitting the new one?

In other words is there any adjustment likely to be required?

Are they all standard fittings?

most LNBs are a standard fitting 40 mm
when you fit a new one best to fine tune
to get the best signal

You can fit any LNB to your Channel Master dish if you have the right LNB holder.

Either fit a standard LNB that has it's own feedhorn or use the Channel Master Feedhorn with a C120 flange fitting LNB.

My own Channel Master Dish currently has the Invacom C120 0.3dB LNB and has been good for many years so far.

id say change it sooner rather than later and make sure that water aint got through into the cable.

i can remember years age when 19 dg east started a 1.7 db lnb was £ 75 to bye

And remember m8 when you install the new LNB if you get one of those covers for the F connector with the LNB, throw it away and use some self amalgamating tape to waterproof the F connector.

Do you leave the plastic cap on, also i think there is a -30 0 +30 setting on the lnb or holder, do you have it so the lnb is sitting centre on 0 ?

I can only suggest you buy a new LNB, they are not expensive these days

Bye a new on then stick the old one in an airing cupboard for a couple of months to let it dry out. Second time I got water in mine thats what I did.
now have two in good working order.

My main question is still unanswered, do i leave the Plastic CAP on, on any Lnb that i fit?
Please remember i removed it on my first attempt, hence the water problems.

if you mean the plastic cap on the end facing the dish no dont remove it.

The -30 - 0 - 30 marks on an LNB are the skew and depend on your location. Start with it at zero then try it either way a bit and note the signal strength. You will soon see where is best.
