got a weird issue on my 1.2m - advice pls

    hey guys,

as you know last week i setup my new laminas 1.2 - i set it up quickly as the weather was bad....but i was tracking the arc, and knew i needed to fine tune

    today was fine tune day.

i got some interesting results....so, 1w is my setup sat - so made sure i was gettin 92% signal on that.

then i checked extreme ends of arc, so i checked, and i could go from 34.5w to 52e - both ends 98% on most TPs - HOWEVER, on the 13e and 19e im getting lower than expected signals...like 65% 70% on RAI and RTL respectively.

i checked nothing was blocking, so i tried manually seeing what i could get on 19e, and manually it went up to 89% -91%....

i dont get how i can get strong signal in middle, and both ends of ARC but what should be strong signals aren't so much....could it be the LNB? im using a Inverto Black Ultra - any known issues with that LNB???

    thanks all!

The Arc is not round, it flattens out at the ends.

To compensate for this dishes that use a proper polar mount and actuator have a declination angle that also has to be set as well as any elevation angle. I cannot speak for these usals type mounts, but I very much doubt they have this feature.

Basically you set the majority of the arc using the elevation angle and then tweak in the extremes at each end of the arc using the declination angle.

There is an easy way to find out -- tune to a channel on 19e or 13 e and without moving the motor on the pole slacken off the elevation bolt and move the dish up or down .
If the signal increases then you are not tacking the arc correctly .
Refer to that picture in the link and work out which way you need to move the motor to track the arc -- it is vitally important that the mounting pole is 100% upright and you have clamped the motor accordingly - not leaning one way or the other - otherwise you are fighting a losing battle.

thanks mate - yes i did do that - and i could get a 20% increase - i.e 90% on a channel manually (moving the dish only when on that sat) - instead of 70% when using USALS.

i just find it hard to beleive my arc is off, when i can go right through left to right on VERY strong signals almost 100%

someone on another forum suggests my motor clamps which arent straight and parrallel might be the cause, so i'll losen all that and realign....

Are you saying the signal increases when you "drive" the dish further East of West by using the receiver?
If so why not simply store that position for each satellite that is slightly out?

    no - im saying that i must be tracking arc, because i can pull in 7e 10e, 23.5e 39e, 45e - at very good signals, as can I at 1w, 12.5w, 30w, and 34.5w

i meant as a test when i drove dish to 19e to check signal, and it was 70% on Phoenix HD channel, i got up ladder, and adjusted dish ONLY to see what i could get, and it was 89% - however, i could never hit there, through many changes of motor angle, and then peaking on 1w and trying and re-trying, and trying and re-trying, each time, adjusting motor, and then re peaking 1w channel

Make sure lnb skew is correct, also I found some signal strength issues with teh IBU lnb, sounds like youa re tracking arc pretty well.

    thanks all.

I had low signals on sportdigital on 19.2e using ibu lnb, put on smart titanium lnb and signal boomed.

this gave me HOPE - and guess what - IT WAS THE LNB at fault.

replaced it with a TM Gold - and straight away got 89% signal on Phoenix HD19e and higher on other channels

what is it with Inverto Black Ultras....i've seen a few threads where this LNB was to blame for one thing or another...

I once tried one ages ago - but results were mega disappointing, most sats quality way down, apart from on 25.5E where there was a big improvement.
