I don't understand why the BBC are getting shafted, there is currently a twerp on QT from Plaid Cymru lambasting the BBC but as he spoke he recalled that it was in the TORY manifesto for 2017 election that TV licence would be met for duration of parliament. I quote " We will maintain all other pensioner benefits, including free bus passes, eye tests, prescriptions and TV licences, for the duration of this parliament." That is on page 66 on the manifesto. And they now say this was a mistake!!

The tv licence is 42p a day so give us a break, if anyone should be pilloried its the government and not the BBC. To appreciate how good the bbc actually is go and live in another country, a loss of 745million cant just be materialised out of thin air. Not all pensioners are paupers, I'm one and I'll gladly pay the licence I hope this comes back to bite the tories big time. How much is that HS project going to cost?

Mind you I have never noticed the tories been nice to the poor. And with pension credit used properly it will still cost the government.

Be glad of the BBC I am.

What is worrying is the BBC don't give a toss, the coke sniffers in their management think they can get away with anything, we have to kick them into touch, they are doomed with their current poor management, the sooner this biased blood suckjers are gone the better, I'll go to jail before another TV license.

It's good you like to watch it, by why should other people that don't, need to subsidise your viewing? I never watch BBC, and don't feel that other people that don't should need to pay for it. BBC should be subscription based and those that want to watch it can pay for it - those that don't can spend their money on better things - such as subscription to Netflix/NowTV or whatever else that shows things they actually want to watch.

All those repeats you watch - have been paid for many times over, and are owned by the public already. New TV programs on the BBC are generally crap - the BBC waste/squander licence payers money. Subscription based viewing would force them to actually make decent programs, or go the way of the Dodo.

I think that people that watch (Biased) BBC are happy to make others that don't - pay for it so that their bills are cheaper - which is pretty selfish if you ask me.

@:gbmitie, don't know why you are blaming the Tories it was a Labour Gov (1946) that introduced it. You pay it my old cocker.

Still think that the whole point of all this is surely that over 75's will have to start paying, when many have more important things to pay for in order to survive a lifestyle when most of us can no longer work in order to obtain financial security?

    Hear, hear!

I know some pensioners who get as little as £75 a week because they didn't pay enough stamp. Not sure how anyone is expected to live on that. Living on the state pension is going to be hard enough without that sort of shortfall to start with. I guess the legal solution, to save one weeks pension money (or 2 if on the lower rate) would be not to watch TV.

Personally, think the TV Licensing corporation are well out of order on this one and that, I believe was the original subject of this thread.

The UK in 1946 was a quite different animal. For a start it wasn't the fourth (or fifth depending on which pundit you follow) largest economy in the world back then.

The BBC World service which is also funded by the BBC although it's a sub company made a good profit in year 17/18 and the BBC received millions in the share of the profits. Surely that makes them a benefactor from a commercial company and not fair to make over 75 pay.

The BBC makes huge profits out of the programmes we in the UK are forced to pay for, when was the last time the BBC paid us a divedend on their hansome foreign income they made on the side from our dosh, its in their pockets funding their opulent lifestyles.

These BBC parasites now want to tax the over 75's so they can waste even more money while the pensioners go hungry, bring back the rope !

Just tried listening toTest Match Cricket, 5 Live sports Extra. which once again was spoiled by theold public school boys, Agnew and Swann, discussing near ***** men, at least they sound like they attended public schools, and how thewind must be awful when blowing up their caveman outfits, around the groin area.
This isalways happening, with BBC commentators, discussing ***** men, mentioning howthey miss ***** men streaking across the cricket pitch, or male nudity ingeneral, but not once will they discuss any female nudity, or scantily cladwomen, and the BBC doesn't consider this to be ***ist, or causing psychologicalabuse, to young boys.
Whyshould any hetero***ual man, or parent, of boys, be forced to pay to subsidizethis abuse?
A lot ofthe music, I listen to, is edited, especially on Radio 1 Xtra, to remove any mention of the word bitch, and anything else, the BBC consider offensive, to women, and other specialist interest groups.
The cricket was much superior, when talksport had the rights, and the ex public school boys weren't broadcasting.

You would never guess, especially when he's talking to his friend Agnew, you can't separate them.
At least with Phil Tufnell you get some cricket commentary, along with his gentle comedy, and not the same old stories, over, and over, again
Sometimes you need to change the commentary team, just to get fresh ideas, and perhaps someone who will describe the actual cricket, including what kind of delivery is bowled, where it pitches, did it seam, swing, spin, etc. and how the batsman dealt with it, instead of the same old, boring, stories, of when they played the game, or what cakes they have had received, from listeners.
It was even worse when you had Agnew, and Boycott, together, with so many old, or rather very old, clichés, regarding Boycott's boring batting, and Agnew's useless bowling, and I respected Boycott, his determination, and guts, when facing ferocious pace attack, but that doesn't mean these two should continue commentating, time moves on, and so as cricket, but the BBC don't seem to believe that.

Yet again Agnew, and Swann, have annoyed me, got back home, after going out to assist someone sending an email, with an attachment, and thought I'd catch up on the cricket, before going to work.
All I got were 5 minutes, of Agnew, and Swann, discussing their friends, career, and other useless things, before someone had to interrupt them reminiscing. with an update that David Warner had reached his 5o, I'd assumed that the cricket was on a drinks break, but no these two unprofessional idiots were just ignoring it.
The sooner talk sport take over the better, as far as I'm concerned.
