    Is this legal?

I had a parking charge notice come through the post today.

It was for staying about 3 hours in our local Waitrose car park.

It wasn't me it was the wife as I never drive that car.
    It is from Britannia Parking.

I suppose I need to know if this is legal and will she have to pay.?
Obviously, if it is, I need to inform them that I was not the driver first.

Never had one of these before so know nothing about them.

Hi You say you never drive the car but i assume the car is registered in your name which is why you got the fine..they cannot send the fine to your wife as she is not the owner.. i suspect either way the fine will need to be paid if an offence has been committed. 3 hours shopping in Waitrose seems a lot to me.... Regards

The owner of a car is responcible for what it is involved in untill he proves otherwise, if the person allows another driver to use his car his insurance has to allow this, if not he's done.

Wife is fully insured to drive the car. She did take advantage of the waitrose car park and obviously forgot about the time limit. Not sure what that is.
She will pay the penalty, it won't affect her licence or anything.

I agree with you mate - yet another example of rampant car parking money cows!!
Then they wonder why all the town centre shops are rapidly disappearing!
Its the whole 'principle' of rip off car parking I'm highlighting here lol!

No one shops in waitrose that long, She obviously went else where but took advantage of their free car parking.
Thus possibly depriving another paying customer of parking there.
See Holmroad there are 2 sides to every story.
On a plus note, take your shopping receipt into waitrose and hopefully the manager maybe able to get it cancelled.

My local walmart now has signs displayed stating over 3 hrs you agree to pay £100 for using their private car park. This 3 hrs can be extended free of charge if you go into the cs desk and ask.
This option stops people parking up and going off elsewhere to shop or even to work for the day.

My point was however about the whole concept of parking charges, but hey ho!

As for Waitrose (or Walmart?) we don't have any of those up north to any degree anyway. Ok apart from Asda maybe.

However yes, I do agree that the lady in the car was pushing her luck bearing in mind the existing cap parking rules.

On another note I parked in a pub car park in Peterborough a month ago and received a fine from brittania parking. Fortunately I paid for my meal in the pub on my credit card. I was able to prove that to brittania and they have just cancelled my fine.
If everyone used the car park without going into the pub then there would be no spaces for customers

I always use the city hall car park in town to go to music pubs on a Saturday night. For the price of a pint it's piece of mind even though I'm sure the council don't work Saturday nights.
The above post was on a Sunday btw. You never know who is watching
