    Former England star Ray Wilkins dies aged 61

    The 14th most capped England player of all time dies in hospital following a cardiac arrest, his family confirms.

    The former England and Chelsea footballer Ray Wilkins has died after suffering a heart attack last week.

    A statement from the 61-year-old's family confirmed that he passed away on Wednesday morning.

    They thanked staff at St George's Hospital in southwest London, where the ex-Blues captain had been placed in an induced coma on Friday.

    The statement said: "We would also like to say thank you for the many goodwill messages we have received from Ray's friends, colleagues, and members of the public.

    "Ray leaves behind his loving wife, Jackie, daughter Jade, son Ross, and his beautiful grandchildren, Oliver, Frankie, Ava, Freddie, Jake and Archie.

    "We are asking for privacy at this very difficult time."

    Yes, dreadful news eh?
    Ray was always interesting to listen to, after he'd retired from a great playing career - espec obviously with Chelsea and Man U!
    Respects and sympathy to his family - RIP Ray 'Butch' Wilkins.

    Its sad to see that Wilko went today, he was a character who did his stuff on the pitch and spoke his mind off it.

    Sorry to see him go.

    Although only a month younger than me he was in the year below mine at the same school but I never knew him to talk to. All I remember is that he was already a very dedicated footballer.

    Shame he had to die so young but look what he achieved!
