IPTV vs Sat ? Your help required

    Hello All,

Been a while since I've been on here :-)
I have an old 9000 spiderbox which I have been using as a freesat box in my sons room for some time.
Looking at a recent thread here about spider boxes , it's obvious that although they can still work to some degree they are pretty much old tech.

Can I ask you all , what do you suggest I purchase in order to get close to some of the original functionality the spider box had ?
I have a static dish pointed only at 28 degrees and cannot put another one up at the moment. I had a play with VLC but found it froze too much.
Do I stay with Satellite or go with an different IPTV solution ?

Either way, what would you recommend?

    Thanks All :-)
PS: I don't have mega bucks to spend !

Hi It all depends on what you are interested in and what is your budget..I dont think the 9000 will give you IPTV but can give you .a motorized dish to pick up more satellites and therefore give you more choice. You cant beat satellites in my opinion although IPTV has improved over the last 6 months..i tend to make my own IPTV lists from the free websites and put them onto my Spiderbox 6000 or Medialink boxes. .it can be time consuming but interesting. Regards

I agree mate, whilst IPTV does indeed seem much more reliable of late, satellite transmissions are by far the most stable clear pics when compared!

If you can only get 28 east and are after the main/only package on that satellite then IPTV is the answer.

You then have to find a good one, there are loads to choose from, some good some bad.

I suggest getting a test first and if you like it then subscribe for a month before taking the plunge for a year.

If you can get a motorised dish then there is a lot still open on various satellites, it depends what your tastes are.

Not sure about IPTV at all nor how long it will last especially if VM gets locked down. Besides 'live' football matches are way behind.

Best bet is still SAT + Motorised or to sign up for services across the pond using a proper VPN...............

Don't even consider paying some fly-by-night s***bag a subscription for stuff they have stolen when you can get it yourself for much less than you may think & legally. Just search for a "Premier league pass" as an example.

    Hi All,

Thanks for the replies,I would prefer to go the Motorised route but I'm not sure if I could have a larger dish on this house.I did at my last house and I really do miss it.
I hate being stuck on 28 degrees.I will have a look around for IPTV services I can get legally if necessary as from what I have just seen,it may be an option.
If I can go the Sat route great , would I need Ccam or something similar?

    Thanks Again

Hi .You dont need a large dish...60cm will do for many satellites..Get a TM2600 motor . The Spiderbox 6000 is good for satellites and IPTV or boxes like latest Medialink which i find to be very good and easy to use. You will need a Cccam or similar for satellites. Regards

If considering a new, larger, dish, for a motorized set up, then you might consider a Penta 85cm dish.
It looks smaller than it is, due to the shape, but performs very well, I set one up for my parents, and is quite light. You used to also be able to get them in various colours, including brick.
You might also consider trying Kodi, which I tend to use quite a bit, on my Duo 2, as well as viewing satellite, as you can view television programs, and films, when you want, rather than planning your viewing round the broadcasters timeline.
