No voice Instructions on my Samsung S7 Edge

I have been trying to use Google Maps on my Samsung S7 Edge with little success. When activated Google Maps gives me the initial instruction "Head South" for example. Then nothing more. the maps work perfectly. I have managed once or twice to get it to give me full voice instructions by switching off the S7 and then rebooting. That works sometimes. Anyone got any ideas? As a back up I have installed Waze and that works perfectly.
