and the answer is... that saving is from the difference charged when your fixed price ends and they move you to there variable price and your new fixed price deal....ie new variable price - new fixed price = saving...(so you still pay more than you did)

I've started changing everything every year.

I was in the AA and the first year was about £35, then the next year I got a letter with them wanting nearly £200, I cancelled and then became a new member again and paid about £35 again.

Car insurance - got a reminder and it was about £100 more from the previous year - went online and they were offering the exact same cover for about £100 less so phoned them and got the online price.

House insurance, same story as above.

Gas/electric - switched from Scottish power to EON, now save about £20 a month.

The moral of the story is, there is no loyalty bonus with these companies - they will try and screw you for every penny they can, shop around for the best deal and you'll save £100's each year.

As mrdude says, loyalty counts for nothing.

Additionally, the energy market is a cartel.

Try compare the market or money saving expert websites, google 'online comparison site' for some good sites. You'll always find a better deal than you currently get.

Try your existing firm but as a new (online) customer.

Robin Hood is a not for profit company, tariffs are always pretty good.

However, it's worth bearing in mind that if you currently receive the £140 Warm Home Discount with another provider, Robin Hood don't do it. I think Ebico were pushing those customers towards SSE.
