    any telephone engineers

    took the face plate off my telephone socket to paper behind it the wires have come out anyone know wbich wire goes where 1 white 1 green and white

    Doubt you need them, I only have blue and blue and white connected.

    the numbers 2 and 5 are used for the phone circuit on a telephone socket

    as mentioned above , only 2 wires are needed but the colours can vary depending on the number of wires in the cable and which have been decided upon by whoever fitted it (and if its official or unofficial)

    so if you only have 2 wires in use, one is in 2 and the other in 5

    there shouldnt be any white ones , typically you will find

    orange + orange/white
    green + green/white
    blue + blue white

    reconnected green and green/white wires to connectors 2 and 5 cant test until line is activated on 22nd does it matter which colour goes in wbich connectof

    Doesn't matter which way round they go as long as 5 & 2. Not polarity conscious.

    as above, doesnt matter which way round as long as they are the correct wires

    when it goes "live" you should get dial tone on it and a blowback from mouthpiece to earpiece, so check it then

    i just opened my phone socket to have a look if it helps anything and sure enuff as echelon said mine is blue + blue white
    its been that way for more than 10 years and likely will never change unless for some miracle i get fiber broadband but i've lot better chance @ winning the lotto ,lol's

    The BT drop wire to my house uses plain blue and plain green. All my extension sockets are wired in parallel so are all effectively master sockets. Internal colours are irrelevant as long as you are consistent.
