Satellite viewing shouldn't be a problem, but IPTV will.
Have you checked if your postcode has Fibre broadband?
Some firms will try to sell you standard broadband, whereas you can get offers, Phone line & Broadband, for only a few pounds a month extra, with a vast difference in speed.

its all about mobile phone contract,my better half wanted to cancel her mobile phone contract, but because she could not remember her password, they will not do it,so she is paying for two contracts from virgin but only using one mobile phone, its a long complicated story really, but its just insane that she has been with them for years, just lost patience with them now.so time to jump ship me thinks, even cancellation department where not any help

Totally agree, stay and give them hell. You won't find a faster connection. They are promising in the future 1000mbps, no time set yet or what cost. I can stream 4K on youtube and Netflix on my 150mbps.

If virgin sorted out there customer service, they would retain far more customers.

There bb service is 1 of the best out there, and there are no mainstream providers that can even get close to the same speeds for the price.

The bonus is, you don't need a bt line for the broadband either which saves you money if you don't need a landline.

As for your issue with the mobile.

We had a similar thing years back, mrs got talked into a virgin mobile contract over the phone, soon as she told me, I got her to ring back and cancel it. They said it was done, but a week later the phone arrived in the post.

We rang them up, said it was cancelled (they confirmed this) and we returned the handset (nothing was ever signed).

X amount of months later (can't remember how long it was exactly) we get letters from debt collectors for this mobile contract, that we never had.

Was a bit of agro, but after various phone calls and legal threats, and threats to cancel all services with virgin (think I had landline with full package, free tv pack that you used to get with the landline from the old days and top bb package), they backed down, sorted out the debt collectors and confirmed it was there error confirmed there was no contract, nothing owed etc etc (never did apologies though).

Just one thing in CokeAddicts post that for me is that I have to have their landline as part of the deal.

I guess it depends on what deal you have with them.

I only have bb these days, and I have no landline.

Icon6 VM can do a baisc 100Mb/s BB - but you might need to work on it

Been with VM and its predecessors for about 20 yrs on an FTTC and then coax to the house "basic" BB service, and was getting a nominal 70Mb/s (and generally 50-60 Mb/s most of the time) until yesterday.

However, having received a recent BT flyer about Infinity coming to this street (in W. London), I decided to try to get a price reduction from VM - short story = got a substantial cost reduction (about £200 per year, although I did lose the unused basic and TV service and paid for a year's telephone line rental for a discount) and, now on a new contract with an immediate upgrade to the now basic 100Mb/s BB service. 15 mins later, I tested that with OOKLA Speed Test, and, after about 4-5 repeat tests, we appear to actually be getting that 100Mb/s or slightly more.

Moral (?), especially if you are on the basic FTTC and cable service to the house, get on to VM, threaten to leave, and get a new contract promising 100Mb/s (download only, upload is still only about 6Mb/s), and hopefully also get a cost reduction

PS: that 100Mb/s download speed is to PCs with a 1Gb/s Cat 5E connection to the router (not the supplied VM one!) and then to the VM SuperHub 2 cable router which is in modem mode only - OTOH, just tested the wireless connection on this quite slow nettop laptop about 8m from the wireless router and only getting around 12-14Mb/s

I'm also with talktalk, and since I used their free telephone options, for blocking nuisance calls, I haven't had any annoying calls.
Just ran a test, with Ookla, 37Mbps download 9Mbps upload.
