The spikes are intended to stop birds and other flying things to stop perching/landing on the object where mounted/installed to hinder fecal build-up and in this case reduce/degrade sat. reception

Yeah i know what they are for never seen them added to a sat dish before , post was a bit of a joke.

Would need a lot of **** build up on a prime focus dish in the uk as they are almost vertical.

yeah bats Hang upside down so they would be on the bottom of the dish / arms ,if of course you had youre dish in a cave or the loft or middle of a tree they like dark spaces to rest during the day, and im sure their **** would not project upwards unless the had a curry the night before

i've never came across any dish like that [ i only thought i'd seen it all , lol's ] ... plus ive yet to see any bird/bat or anything else land or sit on my Channel master dish or my Prime focus Dish i'm more concerned about spiders nesting inside my Feed horn on my Prime focus dish can be frustrating as it reduces signals terrible for me untill i remove the feed horn and clear away the little ball of crap they create inside the feed horn then everything is fine for another few months
as for the above pic i would have thought an easier option would be simply to move the dish to an extreme east/west satellite because normally any movement of the dish would cause the bird/bat to just fly away to a more solid resting place .
i did have issues with crows landing on my phone wire but since i started taking aim with my trusty BB gun that problem quickly became a thing of the past
most likely it would work for satellite dishes also ,hahaha !!

Still that dish looks in good shape regardless of those stupid looking spikes it might be worth a punt
    Cheers !

My dish has been up 30+ years and there's no faecal build up of any description on it. Waste of money and effort.

If you live in the UK the rain will wash it off quicker than the pigeons can sh!t on it.

Plastic-strip ones are easily available on A***** (I have some on the back fences!) and likely easily bent with a bit of heat
