    BADR 4 26 east reception

    Hi,

I'm hoping for a bit of advice. I live in Leeds and have a newly installed system comprising of:

    VU + Solo 4K
    Inverto black quad ultra
    Orbital 1m dish
    Technomate motor
    Running Openvix

Overall I'm really happy with the installation. It currently receives 30 west to 53 east with very good picture quality. However, I only receive TP14 and TP15 on the BADR 4 satellite at 26 east. The SNR for these transponders is about 42% for TP14 and 51% for TP15. Is this normal for my location and dish size?

    Thanks in advance.

Think you'll find this satellite is traditionally not very good for reception in UK mate!!

Yes, there's a few transponders on wide beam, but the good stuff is on a narrow middle-east and north africa beam.

No chance in the UK unless you have a massive dish, preferably 2.5m plus.

Thanks for your replies. Are TP 14 and TP 15 the only transponders on wide beam? I thought all transponders on BADR 4 were receivable in the U.K.

Sorry for my ignorance, I'm still quite new to receiving foreign satellite signals.

another sat here in uk you will get a poor signal with the small 1M dish will be 7W nilesat 4W amos and some others depending on the channels transponders and the beam direction so start saving for that 3M dish

What do you get on 11996H, BBC Arabic? my reception on this in Dublin is S 74% Q 58%. Sky News Arabia is also on this Transponder
    Dubai Sport 1 on 12130V is S.73% Q 44%
my Dish is 1MTR with Inverto Black Ultra. As I know my dish is slightly off and not able to adjust at present
I think you may still have a little extra to gain.

    Hope this helps.

I get 49% on 11996H and don't receive anything at all 12130V. I have noticed I can increase the SNR by a percentage points on 11996H by changing the latitude from 1.609 to 1.101.

I quite enjoy tweaking antennas to get the best out of them but satellite dish's, especially motorised ones are an whole new ball game for me.

Hi ... i would think you could get a little more our of your setup ...
i,m about 40 miles west of you towards Lancaster but using a 1.2 m dish so i cant directly compare
on my setup 12130V shows a fraction stronger than 11996H .... 11978V is equally strong
    regards ...

unless you both use the same receiver and dish lnb combination the signal means nothing i used to have 4 receivers (different makes) running off i 1.8M dish and they all gave different on screen signal strength readings

Have you tried focusing the LNB in its holder, to check that you are getting the max signal from the dish? try moving it about 5mm in each direction and see if you gain anything from it.
The skew should be neutral ie 6 & 12 o'clock

skew should be neutral? 6&12 o'clock is this correct i thought it should be neutral only at the highest point of the arc and not at 26e

Thanks for you help and advice guys. I will look into focusing the lnb this weekend if the weather permits.

I have bought a satellite signal meter to help me focus the lnb.

If the skew is set neutral relative to the Dish, cable connection in the 6 o'clock position, the alteration is done automatically as the dish rotates, we may be talking at cross purposes here,
what I was saying was that unlike fixed dishes, where you would normally pre - set the skew to around the 7 o'clock position, no skew should be applied on a Motorised Dish. Hope this sorts out any confusion.

    regards mobley2

we used magnetic polarisers in the old days or even mechanical still could use them if you wanted skew would be done through the receiver menu good old days c band on a 1.8m precision prime focus dish now used for KA band now that's another story

Hi.. It baffles me that people make comments regarding motors ..I have installed dozens of motors over the years and its so easy i do it with my eyes closed.. How can a motor skew the LNB?? If the LNB is set incorrectly then you need to change with your fingers and not the motor...there are other factors to consider like dish angles and elevation ,dish size and if using USALS or diseqc 1.2 to move the dish... Regards
