Geting a panasonic on friday,,??

Getting a new Panasonic viera 49 4k ultra tv on Friday,,just wondering do I need a special kind of hdmi cable,,for it..(gold tipped n all that),,or will a standard one do,,,if so could anybody recommend one,,thanks in advance,,:svengo:

HDMI gold cables are a con any cable will do.

Had a standard cable and it works fine.

Was given a gold cable by a friend tried it no difference at all.

It's a digital cable it will either work or not

Mmmm not entirely true you need at least a high speed cable (hdmi 2.0 )for the increased bandwidth of 4K
I'd agree though that a 3 quid cable works the same as a 50 quid cable

Yea gold is just bumf I have a Samsung also and a standard cable (1.3)between it and a sky Q didn't work needs to be marked high speed (hdmi 2.0) that's all I'm saying mate .
Richer sounds gave me a 30 quid cable when I bought my screen before Christmas as a sweetener and as you say absolutely no difference between that and the 3 quid cable i bought from kenable

Any HDMI 2 should do make sure that if your TV only has one enhanced port to select that one or enable it in the settings if it has the options.

A friend bought it last week when it was on offer at £229 plus £4.99 delivery and is pleased with it.
Unfortunately it is not 3D but 4K pictures look almost as good as 3D as they seem to upscale SD stuff to look better than HD on a HD TV

There's no reason to get standard-speed cables anymore, as the price difference is negligible between those and the high-speed versions. There's also no real reason to get cables with Ethernet, since nothing uses that, and probably nothing ever will.

So that leaves High-speed HDMI cables... which haven't changed much in years. It's important to remember, there's no such thing as HDMI cable "versions." There's no such thing as a "HDMI 2.0 cable." The version numbers refer to the HDMI connections in your gear. Which is to say, your TV can have HDMI 2.0 inputs, but your HDMI cable is just an HDMI cable. Any High-speed will do. So even if you bought a High-speed cable when all your gear was 1080p and HDMI 1.4, it will probably work now with 4K HDR and HDMI 2.0a gear.

Don’t let the shops fool you with expensive HDMI 2.0 Cables or “4K HDMI Cables”. There is no such thing and there never will be! Just go for a reasonable HDMI High Speed Cable and save your money. High Speed Cables provide 100% compatibility for now and for future HDMI 2.0 contents. The display quality is all the same. You don’t need any new fancy cable hardware.

I think what Rasp is saying is that whatever hdmi port you have on your equipment 2.0.... 2.0a the lead that connects them is the same.Its the port that determines the speed

Although there are different HDMI standards, with HDMI 2.0 being the most recent, there are only two HDMI cable standards: Standard and High Speed. Standard is out-of-date now and supports lower resolutions; High Speed supports everything, including the HDMI 2.0 standard, which gives you 4K TV at 60fps (Ultra HD).

Just be aware that most (if not almost all!) HDMI cables don't provide very good RF screening (perceived evidence from a specialist EMC forum of good repute!), and so be on the lookout for any new interference issues with adjacent equipment (and possibly more likely with high data rates &/or very high pulse rise/fall rates => possible very wide frequency range of harmonics !)

Do not try and lift it out of the box, unless you have very long legs and arms, lay the box on the floor and slide the TV out along the floor.
I made the mistake of trying to lift one out of the box once and soon learned the hard way that it doesn't work like that with todays large TVs, even though they are quite light and easily manageable once they are out of the box

phew up and running before the rugby starts:coolgleamA:so far so good impressed with it ,,the picture is superior ,,hdmi's just plugged them in and all connected up only got 3 same as my 4yr old LCD LG42,full hd ,,which ile keep for the bedroom...the only settings I had to mess with was the audio to give it more bass sounded a bit tinny,,ok now though for another 4yrs I hope,,,,thought ide bought too big with the size of the box it came in,,just perfect size for my table stand,,,,,THANKS TO ALL PIMP MEMBERS FOR THEIR ADVICE:respect-067:

I think that was something to do with the gas inside them but with these bigger TVs you would need to stand on a ladder to be able to keep them upright as you pull them out, unless you ripped the box open where it stood

@Boogiebear, If you haven't done so yet have a look at the 4K demos from the TV manufacturers on YouTube on it, I like one of the Sony ones in particular that has a chameleon on it, and when that comes into shot the details and colours are unbelievable. They have such depth too that you think you are almost watching it in 3D.

Plasma's should not be transported flat as the glass screen could crack under its own weight, not sure it applies to lcd led ect , if it does im sure someone will tell us. :respect-055:
