    spiderbox freezing/Glitching/ power board capacitors

    Hi Chaps,

Got a spiderbox 9000HD from a m8, he told me the spiderbox after a while was going into F100 and reboots however yesterday plugged it in done:

Factory reset, installed 2012 patch, factory reset again and installed new channel list.

picture on BBC freeview is glitching/freezing and pixels on the screen as you can see on the picture attach.

check inside the box and C1 seems to have leaked and C28 top feels not flat as the other caps.

also checked voltage on con2 and 23v and 12v are slightly below all the others are slightly above voltage.

can you indicate where can i start in order to tackle the problem and revive the box.

I am doing this as an hobby therefore i don't mind if it is not time and cost efficient.

    thanks for your help.IMG_0656.JPGIMG_0659.JPGIMG_0660.JPGIMG_0654.JPGIMG_0655.JPG

my point was that this box suffers various issues and especially glitching due to power board problems and TONYO detailed what he had done to repair one or more boxes , not that it was cost effective as he rightly says

the issue on the box isnt relevant, the fact is that after a few years these boxes get these issues caused by dry caps and other component failures that need various components replacing before they work properly again

so the fact that your issue is glitching and maybe not the same as that OP posted about isnt really relevant

picture on BBC freeview is glitching/freezing and pixels on the screen as you can see on the picture attach.
this is a VERY COMMON PROBLEM , so what is relevant is that you asked about component issues and I linked you to a thread where this was gone into in some detail , especially by TONYO who has worked on these boxes in the manner you asked about. sometimes you need to see the bigger picture and not just concentrate on the issues you are describing

In another similar thread I mentioned that these glitching and freezing issues had happened to me on one spiderbox 9000 and on a couple of spiderbox 7000 , so common it is , very common, but as its not cost effective to repair them I have not gone down the same route as TONYO has done

he did what you have asked about, repaired them to learn , but as he correctly states , it wasnt cost effective

if you find some of the other threads on these freezing and glitching issues, you will find similar comments, but not as detailed as when tonyo or jbvid comment on these issues

here is another similar thread where I also replied stating this was a common fault on 7000 and 9000 boxes

    https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthrea...00-hd-freezing

you will find plenty more if you look in the 7000 and 9000 forums here

this one is the old rebooting problem (same psu issues though)

There's over 60 caps on the main board, the power supply was doodle compared with the miniature components used on the main board, if some of them are gone its not cost or time effective to fix them.

I have a working spiderbox 9000 HD got that one for spares however to disregard issue on the main board I can put my working power supply board in the faulty/spare spiderbox and see if that cures the problem then it will obviously be the power supply board.

for £3 in can get C1 -82uf 450v and C28-470uf 10v as they look like the culprits especially C1 as you can see on the picture what do you reckon?

I liked the 9000 a lot but the cap problem is not good, I fixed 2 of them ok, but there comes a time when its cheaper to buy new than fix old stuff, it hurts me to say it as like to keep stuff that works well.

The spider 6000 was great and the external power supply could be replaced at a low cost, my 6k is currently working ok but even that is a bit old hat these days.

I'm sticking with it until it don't work and I cant fix it any more.

Try a 24 hour test line, to see if that works.
What do you mean by network plugs? Are you using some kind of home plugs, to connect your receivers to the router?
It would be unlikely if both spiderbox receivers failed at the same time.

Try plugging the spiderboxes directly into your router. You don't need a satellite signal to check in the menu, to see if it's connected, and the number of cards displayed.

It might have something to do with the old Spiderbox software, not being compatible with a server upgrade.
Do you have another receiver, more modern, you can try the lines on?
