Yes they can. Youtube/google will be of great help to you. I always find followimg instruction from youtube easier than from written instruction.

google " hackmii installer" ,,,there are a few differant methods depending on your wii software version ,,,it,s been a few years since i modded the wii ..i used a 1 tb hard drive to store the games ,it worked great and i had one hell of a games collection,,,the kids no longer use it,,,,,,its neatly packed away and someday ill blow the dust off it,,the games are widely available from torrent sites.......great entertainment for the kids.
