Showtime on 7.0w, I tried so hard to get it that I even forked out for a 240cm Channel Master dish, those of you who have been on here a while will remember my wifes reaction when she saw the dish ..lol
You could even see it on Google Earth :-)

    Hi Guys,
Still on the memory lane bit then!! LMAO. My best memory of the D2mac days was just sitting down to watch a film and as it was about time the code changed - so a quick phone call [I am sure it was] gave the new one - insert quickly and only miss the opening credits!! 'Such fun' ! Cheers Brain

Yep its the only time in 21 years that I had to sleep on the sofa, 4 nights I spent on there.

In the end Showtime went, I think they moved to 26.0e only when beIN took over.

Between about 01:00 and 07:00 I could pull in every single transponder from 7.0e, I was even able to watch cricket on Ten Sports which was the weakest transponder but it was right on the border line.

Hi Wow what memories.. i have had a satellite system since 1982 and have seen so many changes over the years. I even had the square dish BSB system transmitting from the Marcopolo satellite at 1 west..only regret that i did not have a modern phone to take videos or photos at the time..thanks for bringing back my youth....

you could change the onscreen message in the videocrypt hacked code with a hex editor which i though was cool back in the day especially as i would record filth on Eurotica for the lads at work and be able to leave them an on screen message, and make a few quid

At the time the equipment & quality was years ahead of itself
But made it more expensive than Sky
Plus if my memory serves me right
The press (as in The Sun etc)
Hated anything the BBC were involved with
So pushed Sky (quantity over BSB quality)
    Its fate was sealed
Especially as old Rupie owned The Sun & Sky at the time

Then Sky tied up deal with new Premier League in 91/92
    The rest is history

Sky launched around 13 months before BSB and had more channels (11 vs 5), BSB said they had around 750,000 customers vs Sky's 1.5 million.

BSB were paying around £2000 per hour for broadcasting vs Sky's £500 per hour.

BSB was a better quality product (DMAC vs PAL) but that meant higher equipment costs to the customer £370 vs £199 from Sky.

I also read that it cost BSB around £200 million for there 2 satellites (1 as a backup) which they had built for them vs Sky's £50 million for there 10 lease with SES / Astra with no backup.

BSB were broadcasting from Marco Polo House in London, vs Sky who setup in an industrial estate.

Ultimately both companies were loosing too much money so the 1 with the deeper pockets ended up winning.

Plus i always turned the dish to 43 west to get the golf feed direct. Plus remember updating the card to get the tyson/bruno fight.
