    hoverboards ?

ok bought one for my kid for christmas , and sure everyone seen the bad press , it was purchased through mightydeals uk.
it came with BS PLUG but easily chopped off , charger marked ce (the correct way), box marked ce chinese export.

ive charged it once and charger switched off ok with no heat issues smoke or flames

everyone now seems to have pulled them from sale as no sensible answer to which ones are actually catching fire "sky news", amazon are telling people to take them to the local tip and get a refund , lol i can see how that one is going to go .

i know the battery type is very volatile if completely drained or over charged.

ive contacted mighty deals and waiting for a reply , anyone have any valid info on these.

I wish I had bought 1 from Amazon, as I would love a free hoverboard lol

Does yours come with a "use's manual" ?

I thought the same as you, just cut the plug off and replace with a normal one, simples.

However I think that is only half the story with these.

The batteries are not the best, but I do think you can get genuine Samsung battery packs for these (I think it was SVP that were selling these Chinese hoverboards but with genuine Samsung batteries fitted).

But even then, there is a risk of the circuitry inside catching fire as there have been reports (with video and pictures) of them catching fire in the street and exploding.

as to them catching fire in use , my kid also has a razor scooter similar thing , but that has a reset switch if it overheats .

and wont switch back on for a good 10 min , maybe this were they gone wrong or they draining the batteries too low .

Who knows, but this is getting big press atm, and for all stores to stop selling them, and some (amazon) to refund with you having to return can only mean there is some real concerns with them and nobody wants to get sue'd for your house burning down or your kid getting burned or worse.

at the moment everyone pulling them as ****ting themselves for possible claims if anything happened , but still no 100% confirmation on what type charger board etc.

really stupid to be honest someone needs to state the spec or say all and a total ban.

Oh well , one gift idea has gone down the cr..er. I guess I will have to give Argos yet another chance this year and buy something else. Unless Marty or Emmett choose to deliver their pink one tomorrow at about 10. Still in the good year arent we?

As an electric bike owner with a Samsung Li-ion battery and a smart brick charger you really pay for quality anything else you have got trouble. My bike is a Cyclamatic with a 250w motor the motor died after about 800 miles and the battery was losing capacity. What I then did was to buy a conversion kit from Electric bike conversions Knebworth. This quality kit is so much better than the cheap Chinese crap. The battery is fully monitored and never overheats.

Great news. Looks like you have a genuine product and not some clone like the ones that catch light.

Apparently they can't be used in England as they aren't licenced under EU regulations, yet they are permitted in Germany, France, Spain and Italy.

My electric bike is road legal as it is restricted to 24 kph just under 15 mph. The hover boards should be legal but the EU has yet to classify them. Their top speed can't be that high, not sure what the top speed is, walking pace?
We in the UK have to follow the rules to the letter other countries just use common sense. The only thing is the law can charge anyone if used on the road / pavement.
