no sat box can play back video with vp9
cuz there is no vp9 codec to play it back on your box
unless you convert it to xvid , mp4 , ts , mkv etc.
i can do it on the fly to my solo2
    also 4k
vp9 is quicker to convert than 4k

thats the only way your gonner watch vp9 stuff via your sat box
the only software and i have tried them all to get perfect results
to convert 4k and vp9 on the fly to my solo2
    is Pavtube HD Video Converter

    VP9 test file 3840x2160

ive managed to get 1 working by converting it but for the life of me i cannot remember how i done it. it is mp4 format 1 hour long ive just downloaded some more and tried 1 in avi but that would not play. im going to try later and see how i did it, but like i said thay work on my phone in mp4. lol i will not give up yet if ive done 1 i should be able to do some more, thank you.

just a update ive altered some setting in the downloader to down to mp4 and that works so thats 2 now the second 1 as not been converted. ive just got somethings to do ill see if i can upload as a picture thank you.

    solo 4k and vlc player

i have been messing with this, what i did in the downloader is go to smart mode tick enable smart mode format mode mp4 quality 1080 subs english. then just downloaded 2 4k's and put them on my hard drive with flash and both played back ok. now ive just set vcl player up i could only get 1.5 to work the latest 1 is 2.2.1 that did not work, well thats all i could find but the playback is not as good as media player and the 4k's on my hard drive do play back ok thank you.

your solo4k plays normal 4k from youtube

what about vp9 from youtube ?

right click a video on YouTube that you have playing on pc
and click on stats for nerds
to see what codec is being used

    4k down under

here you go look for this on you-tube. i could not copy stats for nerds but got this MSE & WebM VP9.
and also on the stats on the video its got mime type/video/web;codecs="vp9"
and at this minute it is playing on media player is a group of 50 and thay all play if you know how i can copy the stat for nerds i will copy the info. thank you.

i have just downloaded this from here. it was downloaded with the downloader and it is vp9 for deffo. i put in 4k video vp9 and like i said i got about 50 all vp9 unless stat for nerds is wrong but thay all work in media player thank you

Australia - Land Down Under in 4K
    is just a h.264 mp4 in 1920x1080 (see pic)
    plays on solo2

    not vp9

did you try the video in post 4 on your solo4k
that is a proper vp9 video

if you do try the vp9 on your 4k
    rename the file extension
    .webm
    to
    .mp4

VP9 is an open and royalty free video coding format developed by Google
    no license is neeed

so VU could get that codec to work in the solo4k

many players on pc already using it

@ozzsurf sorry for late reply. ive put that clip vp9 on my harddrive on the 4k, its does not even show on my harddrive i can see it in flashfxp i can send it over, it plays in mpc "media player classic" so is that the codecs i have installed or Google decoding it as i said ok on pc, plus will not play in vlc. so when im downloading them it must be the downloader just formatting them into mp4 thank you.

@ozzsurf i renamed that video and your right so i apologize it will not play just a black screen, so even if i download a vp9 is the downloader converting them to mp4 or are thay not vp9 but just 1080, i have asked the question on the vu community. can the decoder be put in the image, i have read somewhere i cannot remember wear or which image gut thay are using gstream vp8 so is that the same thank you.
