went out and got one of Mr Sugars Amstrad SRD600's,.............with D2MAC I was a like a Dog with two tails.

had one of the bsb (old boxes cant recal the make) converted , had the squarial as well binned that ,
can remember amstrad brought out a diy kit to change there 16 channel box to 32 channel,it contained a new chip and new front panel ,the 16 channel was prone to drifting off channel ,but after i changed mine to 32 it was much better

You have got something to answer for, I have got to get up in the loft as I am sure I have older ones than you posted. I also have also got some early Tele Sat mags up there as well.
And somewhere up there is a Filmnet Digital decoder that cost an arm and leg after they scrambled the sound. What a hobby and why I don't have much money now. :-)
can you remember the filmnet decoders that you updated yourself,they sold components as addons you got a circuit diagram and had to solder in the parts yourself,and yes those amstrad sparkles,people soon changed to pace but there boxes had a habit of breaking down,a friend of mine bought one of the first pace motorized receivers,he lived on a farm that had many power cuts,the pace box had no memory and had to be programmed from scratch every time.that was cured a few years later when ecostar 4500 came out

I have a later squarial that was for Astra 1 at 19E - it's still in the cellar.
I remember converting an old Amstrad with the upgrade chip then adding a Global converter to get the lower band. 48 channels - wow!
Purchased an Amstrad 600 somewhere in N.London and took it back home (Germany) as cabin baggage - that was the days before terr0rism and baggage restrictions but it still arose grave doubts for security.
Bought a Eurocrypt card from a mail-order shop in Munich for the D2MAC channels - it updated itself for well over 4 years.
Had a weird card for the later Videocrypt 2 which gave about 30 seconds clear and 30 seconds black per minute.
I remember the early days of Satdudez publishing a hack using a pic card to open most of Europes digital channels at a time when most movie channels had the local language and the original (USA) language streams.
God only knows how many receivers, dishes and LNBs I've bought.
I still have an original Hauppage SS1 PC card which is why I can't upgrade from Windows XP (no drivers for later OSs despite M$ saying they are Chicago compatible). Obviously no HD but it does MPEG decryption on-board and gives composite video without using PC resources (except to run an EMU

I too used to take What Sat back in the early 90's, but haven't kept any! Always get accused of 'hoarding'!! lol!!
Also had D2Mac decoder for Filmnet, TV1000, etc as well as the infamous 'After 8' boxes for the xxx channels! Filmnet (& D2Mac) had what seemed to be a wonderfully clear and colourful picture compared to the prevailing PAL effects at the time.
Amstrad SRD models prevailed, for Sly obviously, cant remember when first Pace models came out?
EchoStar, too, was the crème de la crème as I recall?

I still have a card which was coded with a nail - this was early nineties. My first sat set up was 1989. I am still using my dish from this time being a channel master 1.8. I hope that it will last as long as I have had it!
It has been great. I still prefer my sat channels to all the new tech systems via internet etc
same here but i think mine was videocrypt 1 and 2 with d2mac, all the fun cards tit cards dragon matrix joker had all the cams and cass, technomate, db500 db500hd db700 or 720 cant remember most of the stuff i payed for ( and still buying ian, and not learnt anything lol ) they was the good days running around for codes. all still fun.
btw i always got the mag.
