    LNB ARM? replace

Hi all, not had a chance to search to see if my answer is already on the site? (just in for a cupa)
Has anyone replaced an arm before and what can be used?
and how easy is it to re focus the LNB with the made up arm?

Was taken the dish and motor down to inspect and paint but the arm has had it
so with little money available thinking some sort of box pipe / tube or ???

Dish is just over the meter and was bought to replace an 80 that came in a dish and motor pack .( from the wiz shop so its an old set up lol)
so off to put the 80 up and hope to repair this one..

Buy a new dish with all that rust on the old dish surface you will notice the difference in reception.

yes the obvious move lol but thought i would take on as a project and try sand back and re paint. didn't expect the whole arm to be rotten? rest of dish and motor is ok. (strength wise)
Just put up the 80 and it.s about 10 deg out (going by the adjustments in usual settings) but locking on to my sat's , so sort that out tomorrow.
I now live at 12 deg west intead of 2 east
Maybe light gauge tubed steel would work but I have no way to bend it?

for the price of an aluminium dish these days it s just not worth it, if it was say a channel master 1.2m then yes its worth renovating but a standard 1m stick it in the bin

Yes agree with digicon ...that dish is mangled beyond repair with rust [ time to buy a new dish ]
The cost of a new Dish example # Triax 88cm Dish - €50
Intverto Black ultra LNB under €10

Really IF €60 is beyond your budget then i really am at a loss for words ?

Yip totally agree with you both, I thought it was a 1.1m but just measured it and it's 1m , 1.1 oval so just a 1m dish. For all the sat's I watch these days the 80 will do me fine.
Just as well, it would take me a month to save for one just now.
    cheers anyway..

Thanks everyone for the reply's .I will keep an eye on all the the usual places but the 80 that i put up will do me for now.
    The original question was-
"Has anyone replaced an arm before and what can be used?
and how easy is it to re focus the LNB with the made up arm? "

Like all of you , first thought was bin it! But with no job the now , thought this mad project might take my mind off that fact?
If I did have the money I wouldn't buy a dish? I would buy new cable , motor and a dish?

So I appreciate and agree with the response but there is no answer ?
Think if I was going to tackle it I might try 2" flat steel probably 1.5 meter long , bend to take round the dish then try to re bend to focus the lnb- that's as far as i got?
Thanks anyway, I got my spare dish up and old one is binned, OR IS IT????? Maybe I can turn it into a novelty ashtray? A Frisbee for the larger gentleman? Big wok for party's?

    2 hianita!
Agree with you and everybody- dish is crappy. But, if I was going to bring it back to service without spending lots of money, I would take 3 pieces of threaded bar (6mm would probably be enough), drill 3 holes in the edges of the dish and fix bars in those holes. The other ends of the bars should be brought together and to this point LNB going to be attached. I would also replace LNB holder to be able to adjust position of the LNB in all directions. Then it is necessary to measure dish and calculate position of the focal point of it. When you know focus - just put LNB in it. That is all.
On the picture I painted new LNB arms green.

Oh, I see "banned", what a pity, probably reason was "using rusty dish". Anyway, that was an attempt to give some life to forum. Marry Christmas to everybody.

FWIW, many, many years ago I picked up one of those 1.1m, but actually more like 1m, dishes in vgc and complete with a Jaeger SM99 motor for £10 from a local recycling centre when the "rules" on buying stuff from places like those were more "relaxed", and then put it in the garage until I could get around to using it - which was earlier this year and it now works fine with a Superior Dark Motor from 30W to 53E. So, I saved quite a good dish - OTOH, I would not have tried to resuscitate one like that in the OP's original post!
