How to tape skysportsHD

On specific DDL website they have Versions of WWE RAW & Smackdown taped from skysportsHD in 720p available.
As far as I know it is only working with original sky+ or skyHD, so how do they get this out of the box?

I didn't know one could record HD to Tape. I'll have to dig out my old recorder and have a play.

1) they have not taped it

2) it will not have been extracted from any official sly box HD receiver

How could it have been recorded on an unofficial box if unofficial boxes can no longer read the cards with a HD sub (new pairing system/ new card encryption layer)?

Maybe captured from the HDMI output of an official box ?

Maybe captured from Scart output (easier) and is not 720p just upscaled ?

they are all "recorded" , otherwise they would be "live" (one or the other) and not on any download sites if they were actually "live"

one of the main purposes of HDMI is to let the equipment know what they are connected to, so the HD content from an active box has to handshake with a passive device like a TV or monitor , so afaik there is no device that allows capture from a HDMI output (unlike scart or phono)

there are afaik NO HD recorders on the market that will record from an external source either, in other words its a closed system to stop piracy

in my experience these downloads come from USA sources so may not be anything to do with sly, we only have the OP`s word that these have come from an actual sly source and are 720p

there is NO comments as to which source these were captured from either , ie:- SLY where ?

I just looked at a couple of websites and can see the programmes for d/l at 720p

but I see no evidence that they were on sly, on the contrary they appear to be from USA channels like tv14 , peepshow etc

I could not find any that showed them from sly sports HD at all

So we need waldmeister to confim that the recording does NOT have the "Sly Sports HD" logo on screen. And therefore has NOT been taken from a Sly UK source.


Even if it does have the "Sly Sports HD" logo on screen it doesnt mean it was from the UK.

I think this one can go down as "SOLVED"

I think the above suggested sources are more likely - however

They might have recorded if from the VM version of skysportsHD. If it is from VM you would see the feint heart symbol in the bottom right of the screen.

i downloaded a few i only found one with sky sports hd logo and no virgin watermark at the bottom right.

it does how ever have another shape above the hd , heres a screen grab.

it was dated 4/11/2014 , iknow nothing about wwe so it could be a older one re uploaded ?

looking further into the shape above the hd , states on sky forum that its for interactive services (use to be red) , looking on my sky box it is there .

Could have been Sky Deutschland as some of its channels including Sport 3 are also encrypted in Nagra3.

Not sure if it ever has original audio though.

no its a different logo screen from 19 east.
