Openvix loses Catseye settings with latest firmware upgrades

Just thought I'd mention that, as well as losing the settings option for Catseye within the online downloads section recently (due to advertising!), the recent firmware upgrades for Openvix also appears to wipe the Catseye setting and replace it with an alternative one. Well at least it has done on a couple of occasions when upgrading my Vu+ Uno with Openvix.

Only a minor irritant I know as it's easy enough to upload it but thought I would share it with people.

I use cateyes settings! At the end of the day it's their loss! Our gain! Cateyes by far the best settings!

not really, he rather deviously in conjunction with his sponsor contrived to hide advertising in his settings, makes you think what else could he (they) be hiding ??.

There is nothing in the image that would prevent a user from using these tainted settings, we just decided to stop hosting them via our own sever as a result of the devious attempt to hide advertising in them.

His settings as far as I'm aware the settings always had goldwafers in the settings since I've used them!

At the end of the day catseye puts the hard work into the settings so he chooses to put what adverts he wants into them. Simple as.

I absolutely agree it's his decision, but while those adverts are in there we wont be hosting them via our plugin servers. we could have placed adverts in our images and plugins a long time ago but thats not the route we wanted to go down.

Fair enough! Just means people will be coming to this forum and other different ones to get the settings. You seem to be the one losing out, But that's your decision.

    What a bloody cheek
Firstly coming on here & accuse me & the site sponsor of being devious just because the file is sponsor by someone other than your own
& then to suggest I might deliberatley hide something else within the files is just laughable

Why would i spend hours perfecting these files only to suggest I or someone else might add something that would cause harm

Whilst we are on topic how can you say I contrived to hide advertising when there are 2 lines, one on the 1st part & the other on the last of listings advertising this site sponsor
Its not as though a huge pop up box appears before you are allowed to proceed is it

Im sure if anyone wanted to omit the references to the site sponsor surely all they would be required would be to remove the reference prior to uploading-or is that too easy

I'm using VIX, and when booting up, there IS advertising.

Don't rate either enough to be bothered TBH. Find this all a bit childish when I consider we are all supposed to be together in this 'hobby'. Find it most odd that ViX seems to think it is some kind of primadonna image creating team. Sheesh. OpenPLi based HELLO!

I do my own channel lists which IMHO are the best out there and which have absolutely no advertising in them at all.

Be a neutral, use ATV and MaliMali settings!

ive always used Catseye settings on both of my Dreamboxes SD And HD

i see nothing whatsoever wrong infact there is no other settings i would want on any of my boxes except Catseye Settings
it makes me very sad and angry to read such foolish petty bitterness and obvious negative jealousy
i will always respect Catseye and our Forum Sponsor
And whatever i have bought from our Forum sponsor has been first class items and prompt delivery
i have and always will visit this forum regular and i can appreciate the many hours of very hard work that goes on to compile these settings by Catseye that everyone seems to take very much for granted .

@ user phoenix ...What i can say is if you dont like these settings then nobody is pointing a rifle to your head forcing you to use them so take your negative thoughts elsewhere this is a friendly community and forum and our sponsor is more than friendly and helpfull aswell ,
if you cant appreciate the hard work and countless hours Catseye gives with each and every update then by all means show us all what you can do instead of posting useless and negative jealous posts ???

There is nothing better never has been never will be and no alternatives for a reason because Catseye takes time to perfect each and every update something nobody else is bothered or cares to do and that is a Fact like it or not and the very reason Catseye continues to be The BEST !!

So please refrain from such stupid negative comments we dont welcome them here this forum is far above all that type of nonsense thankfully and that again is a Fact !

And i hope Catseye will see past the very very small minority and keep doing a great job and keep us the genuine members here updated and choose to ignore such disappointing silly childish remarks that have been made by such a very small minority of 'so-called' members of this forum .

I no longer use VIX images mainly because they think they are the gods of the sat world. We know best and everyone else has no opinion worth a bean. Keep up the good work catseye yours are the best ones out there. As for hiding things what an insult.

    I agree with you but
his settings are only the best since there are no settings from the legendary Captain anymore ( i´m a bit longer in the
Sat Scene so i still know the Captains Work )
but anyway look in Vhannibal or CST Settings there you can find advertisings everywere
i could only say catseye does a very good Job and i´ll personal hope he did it still a few Years longer Thx

no there is not, the most you will find in a untouched ViX image is a link to our support forum and the OE-Alliance, not even our sponsor gets a mention in the image.

What's first thing viewer sees when vix image loads on screen?

Does it say Nescafe, Heinz, Durex?

Your board name which happens to have the same name as your sponsor, with the exception of .com instead of co.uk

Plugins and settings files turn functional images, into fantastic platforms to view satellite TV (and much more) on. If it wasn't for the people devoting their time and effort into creating them, there would be no userbase for these images. Without settings and plugins, I'd have a very expensive motorised Sky box, because I have no idea how to create these settings, or the time to do so. Settings like Catseye and plugins like CrossEPG are priceless in that respect to me.

I do delete the sponsor line in the settings, but I also delete a lot of other lines that I don't need. But I respect any creator's choice to put whatever they like into their creations, even more when they do it in a way that I have the option to easily remove it, if I choose to do so.

At the end of the day, the choice to ban these setting on that *other* site, turns people away from that site, and more importantly, away from their sponsors. Seems like a decision that wouldn't impress their sponsors if you ask me... because it makes them look bad. Especially as that sponsor doesn't sell receivers with the Vix image as an exclusive install, they will install any image you choose. Makes you wonder what will happen if the other settings creators add sponsor lines in their creations? That plugin list could end up a bit empty.

I must confess, I did wonder what had happened with these settings though, because when the installer set my system up, he installed them from the plugin list. When I flashed my box, they weren't there. Not the end of the world though, as one quick load of DreamboxEdit later, and they're all in there.

Ah Openvix I used to have that image on a box but got totally frustrated with this constant update your image scenario. I have a Solo SE bought from our sponsor Lee he was kind enough to put BH on the box for me and to be quite honest it's better than Openvix. Images need updated periodically we know that but Openvix seem to me to try and capture you in the web of constant updates. I think each update just creates problems somewhere else hence eternal anyway highly delighted with BH and our sponsor and long may this continue.
